What would be better to buy, the amd 2500 barton or the amd 2700. Like how much better are the bartons.

my friend just got the barton 2500. he really likes it. it is definitely faster than my 2100 that is overclocked to roughly the same Ghz as the barton. i think the 640k of on die cache really makes a difference in processing but i am no expert by any means.
the prices aren't all that different at the moment between the two. however, it is possible that the barton could run a little cooler for you as the die is slightly larger and results in increased heat dissapation, by a slim margin.
i will be purchasing a barton 2500 soon.
good luck.

roblae, you seem to be an asus fan as well.
i use their mobos exclusively. i love 'em.
my new system, one month from completion, is going to have the A7N8X deluxe mobo w/ the barton 2500. can't wait for gaming on that puppy.

ahh get the opteron! :P
the 2500barton is really nice especially since the huge barton price drops a couple weeks ago.
you might also want to check out the new abit mobos

Yea I had a couple of ASUS boards but I'm switching to ABIT nforce
ANUS has a crappy customer support and are a bit overpriced IMO
but they are of excelent quality

I personally end up going all over the place for my mainboard choices, I'm using a giga-byte in my system now, and I've used EPOX in the past. I guess the problem is that if you don't deal with the company it's sometimes hard to gauge the company. I've been lucky that I haven't had to call in for support for any of my mainboards.. *knock on wood*

Personally if I were to buy an athlon right now I would get a 1700+ DLT3C JIUHB chip. They overclock to 2.2-2.6Gzh approx. But of your two choices I would say go with the 2500+ it's a better value for you money.

Personally I would go with the Barton 2500. If your planning on overclocking the chip, its a good value. I am currently waiting for a new stick of memory(HyperX 3500). I had the chip over 2400 MHz on air with no signs of slowing down, until my HyperX 2700 gave up. If your not planning on overclocking the chip and money isn't an issue, go with the 2700+....It'll will be faster.

GO the barton for the price difference the barton is way better plus i think by memory it has a higher fsb than the 2500+anyway

If overclocking I'd go with the 2500+ since the new steppings have been coming out the chips will do 2.4-2.5 Ghz fairly easy. The older AQUCA Bartons weren't very good for overclocking. A 2700+ probably won't do much more than 2.6 Ghz without some extreme cooling.
If you're not planning on overclocking I'd go with the 2700+ as the difference in clock speed makes up for the Barton's extra cache. A Thoroughbred only needs 200 Mhz more to surpass the Barton's performance.
I got one of the Bartons about 4 months ago. It is currently sitting at 2.31 GHz and is extremely stable. For the price they are going for now ~$90, how could you go wrong. With all the overclocking I have done on mine, my Sandra scores have increased about 20%. Although a good cooling system is HIGHLY recommended.

Between the two i would (and did) go for the 2500 barton. It is better performance vs cost (£30 difference) at stock speeds compaired to the 2700.
Also if you go into overclocking then the 2500 bartons are doing some amazing speeds at the moment.
With stock cooling i got mine up to 11x200 (i know nothing soo bad, but only stock cooling) 2200mhz. A nice 300+ over stock speeds and rated somewhere near an XP3200+ sweeeet!!!
Real easy to do too, just depends on your mb.

try to push it further, see what you can get out of it

i know i know :) but at 11x200 it runs at 45c rest/54c work!!! Went down to 10.5x204 to keep temps under 50c.
I got to make it to the end of NEXT month before i can afford the WaterChill kit. GPU/CPU/NB all cooled THEN we see what this baby can do Muhahahaha*cough-cough*hahahaha!!!!
Thought about replacing hs with a volcano (cant remember the version but it had a heat pipe) for a while that a friend has spare, but i cant be bothered for that hassel when i know i will have to clean cpu->clean/lap hs->reseat hs only to have to do this again in a months time. I can wait... just.
