ok, so i am building my badarse gaming PC at the moment.
my question is, have any of you ever used one of those PC carries (e.g. LANpal or the like)? i will definitely be carrying this thing to lan parties as well as LANwar 20 in october. do they scratch or warp the case at all?
another option is to install some type of handle on top of my case. i think that my case is strong enough to take it. its an antec SLK3700AMB.
any ideas?

I suggest going with case handles just because it looks cool and it is strong. You could get a Lan Tote strap or whatever and possibly find it is more convenient because you can put keyboard and mouse etc in little pockets on it. If you aren't comfortable moddng your case and instaling the handles, definitely just get the LANpal or whatever but if you can do it, do the handles :)

I been using a PC tote for my computer and I didn't have that much of problem with scratching or warping, though I didn't have the nice of a paint job on the outside, just the standard beige.. (Been meaning to change that at some point).
Though handles would probably be more convienent. I've seen some that you can attach shoulder straps to and just handles. The other thing to consider is the size of the case. Mine is huge and it makes it tough to carry by handle, a should strap would be much better.
The other problem that annoyed me was taking the pc tote on and off. I took it off since it would be a pain to get into my case since the straps cover the side panels. This wouldn't be a problem with built in handles.

with handles you would probably need to put 2, one handle in the middle would mess up the top of your case and possibly even break it due to lack of support. You need to install 2 handles where there is enough support to allow it.
PC Totes to me are sort of stupid because its not like you can haul around a case easily with a strap, a big case swinging around = bad, I would go with handles.

The PC Tote that I've got basically gives the case a temporary handle. Though the other problems I've had still apply.. Here's a link to a reivew of it.. http://www.mikhailtech.com/articles/other/pctote/

i think that the built in handles are the best idea. just have to get out the old power drill and dremel.
the only problem i see with the handles is you need 2 hands to carry it, if i put in 2 handles that is. how do you carry the monitor and PC at the same time?
maybe i could do 2 handles, and then attach a strap to the handles for the times i need a free hand.
thanks guys.

well... you should use 2 hands to carry the tower, and 2 hands to carry the monitor. I couldn't hold my 22" monitor in one hand if i tried, i can barely pick it up with 2 hands.

I'd go with those too especially since they fold down so their somewhat hidden.

I think having two handles on the top of your pc looks retarded and isn't really functional. I mean with 2 handles it takes you two hands to carry it, so why not just pick it up in your arms without the handle. Now a single handle or carrying strap allows you to pick it up with one hand. Leaving the other hand free to carry your lcd.

i like that industrial handle look though. we got a PC TOTE with a LANPARTY mobo we just go tto review, so I guess I will check that out and see if I actually like it after all.

true, but not the case for every1. however i am planning on getting a car handle to mount on the top of my case, so i can carry it with one hand and hold my 19" trintron in the other ;)

The car door handle looks nice. I think the only problem with a single handle is that light weight cases might get twisted out of shape unless you reinforce them a little (not too much or you'll need 2 handles to pick it up

yea thats why i was saying 2 handles. i dont much like the look of that car handle, but whatever does it for you :P
you know what would be cool? If someone made the side of their computer slide down like a car window...that would be the ultimate mod.

LOL POWER WINDOW AHHAHAHAHAHA... that would be so tight. you would need a small motor to power the window though. HMMMMM. :-D

i would get the ones that are set into the case and rivet in place
you know what would be cool to? a foot rub on the top of you're computer were you can just prop you're foot at lol..

the window thing could be done, think of a bread box door and roll the panel into the bottom
Kurtis
05-13-2003, 09:51 PM
yea it could definitely be done, but if it is to be done it needs to be stylish and it has to work smoothly.

Then it wouldn't be like a car window cause it would be have to be in pieces. You can't do a car window unless it only uses up half of the side panel. After all the window has to go somewhere.
Not if its a rollable car window!
bigapl
05-14-2003, 04:42 AM
no it would have to roll but one could use strips of plexi
or oh oh how bout multiple string of beads going down the side as a panel? that would be rocken..

I didn't say I hated the idea. I just said it is not like a car window. I like the breadbox rolling window idea.
oh you know what would be cool for a CD-ROM? if you had a toaster? Mount it on the side of you're computer...have a button on it press that button and VRRRMMMMM the top of the toaster opens and the CD-ROM slides out opening and you put the CD in then it retracts...that would be so COOL!

I think his cd drive will actually come out of the top. If not, it will come out the front, but I do know it will be mounted sideways.

mount 1 in top smooth and useful
Kurtis
05-14-2003, 08:52 PM
1 in top = bent top panel and possibly eventually breaking it in half. 2 handles is best for good support, you can always put a strap on the handles so you can lift.
bigapl
05-15-2003, 08:19 PM
maybe bend with a cheap as* case but if mounted correctly near corners it would be fine
Kurtis
05-15-2003, 08:33 PM
thats why i say 2, one on each corner. :P
fhetw
05-15-2003, 09:33 PM
or, if youre afraid of it "bending" or whatever, you could just put some wheels on the bottom, and get like one of those retractable luggage handles and drag your case around. ;)

I like the ones in that ebay picture. Very nice idea, exept the plastic or glass? no whatever it is, on the makes the fans blow air into it and then some air bounces off back into the fans. Other than that, pretty damn cool.
