In the near future I will be getting a new HSF. My board dosn't have the holes around the slocket. What is the best HSF I can get....and how much?

Right now, I am using a Vantec Aeroflow, but have also used a Volcano 11 and some random CoolerMaster one. I would have to say that the Aeroflow is my favorite it terms of cooling/sound ratio. It is quieter than any heatsink/fan I have ever seen, and it cools effectively. If you can wait a week or less, we will have 3 new heatsink/fan reviews up, and see if they are worth it.

im gon pimp the slk800 or slk700 series
preferably slk800

slk-800U make sure its a U
slk-900U make sure its a U, but not recommended bc of price/performance ratio compared to the 800U buts its still better if you want the best
mcx-462T+ this one goes for $90, supposedly good, but i havent seen many reviews, cough get to work brian ;)
with these you will generally run noticibly cooler ÂșC compared to others, including volcano11

actually i would go for slk800 or slk800A since it uses the clip
personally i had to take off the mcx462+ a couple times in a comp and i got very sick of it lol
unless you're a once its on it stays on sorda person lol

the volcano 11 works very well, but is really loud, as the review on TTL.com states.
it does keep my friends bart0n 2500 below 40 degrees with the fan speed adjusted. under heavy gaming load it runs about 45, but that is with the fan turned down.
like brian said, the vantec aero is nice too, just got mine. however, i don't have a cpu to mount it too yet.

I have to say that the coolermaster with aero blower on it likes kinda kewl, supposedly pretty quiet too. Though I only have reviews to go on though. I'm starting to get tired of my computer's whine :)

i got one of those zalman fanmate1's for my CPU fan. it will allow you to turn the RPMs down thus lowering that annoying whine. i run mine at ~3000-3500rpms and get the same cooling effect without the noise. it's my damn powersupply that is so noisy, time for the TT-300ss.

The best part is that if you go to http://www.newegg.com and look at the pictures they have of the blower, there is a little sticker that says not to stick your hand in it. So I guess it is a little bit of a meat grinder.. :)

I have the same board. I opted for the sk6+. Not the best hs out there, but it has the 3 clip system, and it was only $10 US so I bought 2.

this may not be of much help, but it's a good point.
i bought an AMD CPU and mobo last year. At the time i wasn't comfy with mounting the chip and heatsink on my own, so i had the dealer i purchased the set-up from do it for me. i had upgraded the standard HSF to a thermal take copper core rig. good thing i did too. after about 9-10 months of use, i noticed my CPU temp was rising into the high 40s. so, i took off the HSF thinking that maybe they had used the crappy thermal pad rather than paste when it was mounted. wrong...there was NO paste or pad. the only thing that saved my CPU was the fact that i got a good copper core heatsink.
from then on i only bought copper cored or pure copper heatsinks.

They probably just used a cheap compound....everyone that knows anything about putting together a system knows they need to use thermal. The rising temperature is a good indication that there was compound there at one point.

that's what i thought at first tpmeade but when i took off the heatsink there was nuthin there at all. no residue, no nuthin. i think the reason the heat started to rise was that we moved and the machine probably got knocked around enough to shift the sink a bit. at least shift it enough change the contact between the die and the copper core.
usually when a cheap compound is used, you can at least see some residue around the edges of the die, but there was nada.
