my POINT, is that it was more fun when every1 knew each other pretty well and all agreed upon the same game. now, there are like 30 people playing 10 different games with too many "omg lets play this awesome NEW game cs."

rofl yea. a lot of it has to do with people not buying the games. people play cracked wc3, cracked ut2k3, cracked mohaa, cracked bf1942... if people owned the games it would be easier. I never have the games that everyone else is playing. I do agree though, the everyone playing diff games thing is really gay. In fact, I even took my laptop last time to act as a server and noone even used it. Stubborn idiots...

the last LAN party I went to was complete bullshit. I was there waiting to play a line-up of games we had planned, then these god-damn freshman come with their x-box and start a 16 player halo game. Then everyone is off of their computer and playing Halo, and me and two other kids are playing what we had decided upon..it was boring I just stopped playing and logged on to battle.net and played my own shit.

Ooo. Feedback. I've always thought that we've done a pretty good job of organizing. A lot of people have complained that everyone is always playing a lot of differant games but I just don't see an effective way to mandate this, this is usually something that happens of itself. We've tried organizing stuff before but no one wanted to listen to us, they just did their own thing. We could be harsher about it I suppose but it's a LAN party, I don't want to be Nazi Dave and tell everyone what to play. So we decided to be more passive and try to provide dedicated servers so people would play the games that were being hosted. That worked okay, until everyone started launching games of their own until it got to what you guys apparantly don't like. So if you have a suggestion that doesn't require us being overly harsh I'm all ears.
And anything else that we could "organize better" too.. (and if it's the website, well, we hate the site and we hope to get a new one up eventually).

Okay, I will try to suggest a few things here... Feel free to reject any ideas and call me an idiot.
One huge problem is that so many people just don't have the same games. BF1942 is awesome but hardly anyone has it. UT2K3 is fun but everyone has the same copy and several people cant play at same time. WC3... well I dont have that and someone needs to give it to me.
Another issue is the internet. Not being able to play on the internet also very much limits us. Instead of 5 people at the LAN playing one game with 20 other people online, they are playing with just 5 people... not very fun.
Incentives: This a problem that may be solved soon. Brian and I are planning on giving away some stuff that we have received as prizes to people who play on our dedicated server and kick everyone's ass. What we hope to do by this is get everyone into the same game so that we can have some fun with everyone.
Another thing is that stupid damn Xbox. Why take that to the LAN party? I say we should ban all console games from the parties. If you want to play xbox, stay home, its a damn lan party... The TV they plug in sucks up enough power for like 4 computers probably if not more.
I can't think of anything else right now, let me know what you think about my suggestions though
mesah wants to go to lan party but mesah not live near u guys >.<

I think the main problem is all the kids that show up. They all act stupid, and ruin the more mature fun we all like. Dave, please please make an 16 or over rule... if not 18 :-D

oh god that would be nice. i hate those little kids they are annoying. i say a COLLEGE KIDS OR OLDER ONLY rule needs to be implemented :P

How would I fix that though? I announce the games that will be at the lan, I provide links to updates, demos, and patches. And I remind everyone that they need these games and they all need to be updated. Short of buying a copy of every game and having that available for everyone at the lan; this problem seems more like a user problem - not management.
Another issue is the internet. Not being able to play on the internet also very much limits us. Instead of 5 people at the LAN playing one game with 20 other people online, they are playing with just 5 people... not very fun.
Well I'd like to find a place with internet but that's a bit of a problem. It is haard to find places that meet the criteria we need. They need to be large, have plenty of power, be accessable to everyone, be available for a full day, have enough tables and chairs, and not too expensive. That last one is the hardest, believe me. So if we actually find a place that meets all of these requirements having internet is just a perk, because you don't really *need* that at a lan. True, it'd be nice, and if you can find a place that has it and all that other stuff I'd be grateful.. but it's not the biggest priority.
Another thing is that stupid damn Xbox. Why take that to the LAN party? I say we should ban all console games from the parties. If you want to play xbox, stay home, its a damn lan party... The TV they plug in sucks up enough power for like 4 computers probably if not more.
I didn't think it was that much of a problem.. When they did bring the xbox (which was only one time) I think a max of 3 people went and played, and the TV never caused any power outages. True, if it gets to the point where the xbox is interfering with the computer gaming then I'll put a stop to it. Put until then I don't see what is wrong with a little bit of diversity, eh?
The age problem is a bitch too, I know, I'm 19. I've seriously thought about putting a strict age limit on it but I don't know how it would go over. Over half of our membership is under 18 and I just don't know how to say "well, you're out. why? You're young and annoying. Goodbye." And once they started to game a bit, they weren't that bad. They DO add enthusiasm..
Frankly though, I've been having some thoughts about the lan. I've done this for over a year now and it's getting kinda old for me. It's a lot of trouble to go and set these up and once they are actually running I'm lucky if I get an hour of gaming in. On top of that I feel like I recieve nothing but flak because of it. I like criticism and all but when that's all you're getting it wears ya down. Besides, I think my interests are shifting to other things. In short, this might be the last lan for me at least.... we'll see.

one hour of gaming? what do you do the whole time?

I go around helping people with their problems, making sure they can detect the network, install the games properly, making sure power is allocated correctly, bla bla bla bla... I can't think of all the stuff I do off the top of my head right now but it keeps me busy.

just play games and let other people help them :) thats not your problem

But it is.. if I don't help them I'll be receiving even MORE complaints about how they could never set their comp up and shit.. bla

Well, just make it 15 or over, that way those damn kids don't come anymore (no offense to any youngens on this site, but these are horrible).
I know it's hard, and you don't get much appreciation, but people wouldn't come if they didn't like it, right? So you are doing something right.
All the people that are complaining are the ones we get tired of at the LAN anyway. You/We/whatever should try and get the word out to more mature people. I will start promoting you on this site, and hopefully some people in the good ol' SA will see it.
Please don't quit tho Dave, it's not the same w/o you. If you do, Kurtis and I may have to start up our own, and I dunno if I'm ready for telling a bunch of kids why they can't come :-P
