don't know if any of y'all read this or heard about it, but i found it interesting:

i use the peer guardian cloak they discuss in the article and i have had several hits from the RIAA and MPAA blocked, so they ARE out there trying to intimidate users.

You should check out SoulSeek. www.slsk.org. Got annoyed with Kazaa Lite, but SoulSeek has it's drawbacks too. One cool thing is file browsing, so I can just queue an entire album from someones share.

which also makes it more vulnerable to get into someones system
anyway I use Kazaa because i got anti-ad ware, and an anti-spy ware prorgams plus anti-virus...though i don't use it much anyway its cool for me because i got these programs BAUAHAHAHAH

hey could ye send me a list of those IPs? PLEASE :D
handrail
05-28-2003, 02:41 PM
DnD,
if you download the peer guardian software, the IPs are listed in it as a text file.
i can give them to you if you like, but i think there are quite a few, like oh hundreds of them. maybe not more than 100 or so, but still, a lot.
if you would like me to e-mail them to you in a txt doc, i will be glad to once i get home 2nite.
let me know.

What r u talking about dude. How does that make you more vulnerable? Kazaa is the program where they are downloading peoples tax files because they don't even know they are sharing them!
and whats the difference between Kazaa and the other program?

and whats the difference between Kazaa and the other program?
mostly the amount of ppl using them, thereore building a bigger userbase, which means faster speeds (if the prgoram utilizes the option of downloading the file in chunks from different users, so it makes it faster overall) and more things to d/l
plus the exclusion of spyware and crap by some programs

Yeah kazaa is much faster than soulseek. Not only because there are more users, but also because you can get the same file from multiple users. Soulseek has no such function.
The main reason I like Soulseek better is that I feel like I have a little more control over what's happening. Also I can just peruse someones library and say, oh there's an album I've wanted, but never thought to search for. On that same token you can search for one song and download the whole album (folder) if you so please.
Obviously there are pros and cons, but you should check it out. If anyone does check it out feel free to add me! My username is the same as my forum name here, "brbubba". It is case sensitive though. :D
p.s. if I ban you for not sharing please message me and say you are from techlounge and I will unban you.

kazaa lite works fine. as for the RIAA, if you're really concerned then just unshare your files... problem solved.
I too use kazaaLITE, although I only run it when I need to. No point in leaving yourself open when you don't have to. In terms of the RIAA, they are looking for large filesharing I beleive, although the RIAA is now having some problems tracking wireless connections here (http://news.com.com/2100-1027_3-1026204.html?tag=fd_lede1_hed)

Check out the newest version of KaZaA lite, they have some IP blocker on it.

But my dad still won't let me use it :x

I usually prefer using WinMX, it really hasn't done me too wrong in the past. Though sometimes I think it could use a bigger userbase to get some more files up. I sometimes have to wait for a file to become available but I usually end up with the file if I'm patient.

WinMX works it for me too, but the waiting around can get a little bit annoying.
Anyone read http://www.techtv.com/news/culture/story/0,24195,3484600,00.html (http://url) about the RIAA hit list? Not good!
Anyone here on that list?

Why, are you guys still using Kazaa, IRC is the way to go, alot faster and really no need to worry bout RIAA or MPAA

IRC.. wow.. going old school. :)
That's what everyone was doing before this. Although sometimes lots not knowing what they are doing can be a little annoying.. :)

kazza lites all good and all but direct connect is the shiite, especially at school cause we have a dedicated lan T1 server..1MB/S max DLs!!!!=divx movies in 15min (and yes I know lan can go faster but theirs usually around 5000ppl and a couple terabytes of stuff jammed in the server) . there are servers outside o the school enviornment too, def not as fast but good stuff nevertheless. also, dunno if its still around but hotline connect was great when I was a mac-head. Say no to P2P and yes to server client.

KaZaA Lite and Peer Guardian here, as for the new version of KL K++ with the IP blocking, don't just trust that, you should also have PeerGuardian because the built-in blocker is lacking many ips. You CAN update them in a txt file in the folder but with PeerGuardian you have more control and it is a little easier to update.

If I remember 5 Million users use kazaa. Kazaa Lite K++ is the best ;)

For some reason Kazaa lite k++ split into 2. It's now Kazaa Lite 2.4 and Kazaa k++ 2.41. They probably work similarly, and both blocks RIAA, but who knows if it works 100%. :D

k++ has extra features like cheats, credit rating 1000 and extra tools.

Yeah! But don't you go telling every one who uses Kazaa(original) :D , or else the cheat would be pointless.
The bad thing about kazaa is you can't find any new stuff on it like you can on emule. Also, a lot of sources are useless due to the fact that I have a firewall so while my friend is getting 150+KB on literally every thing he gets (he doesn't have a firewall), I'm only getting like 10KB! :(
That's why I switched to emule not long ago ever since my ISP took off that stupid 10GB limit. :D

I wouldn't think that would happen, I have a firewall and no speed problems here. :D Sounds like your connection with the other computers, it would be there fault...

every school has T1 at least. the only thing is if they have the computers to take advantages of it. :)
At my school(unless you are talking about university or collage) you can only get about 40kBps, why? because the library's computers are still P166MMX w/32MB ram!!!!!!
I get a decent 160K on my DSL anyways so there's not much point.
