thought i posted this earlier, but it didn't take...or maybe i hit preview on accident. anyway, if i am repeating myself just ignore me or delete this if you are a moderator.
has anyone seen this vid card yet?

i saw it at directron and wondered why it was so cheap and why they felt that 256mb was necessary when the membus and clock speed can hardly handle it all.
i haven't been able to find a review of it either.
any thoughts???

256mb memory doesn't mean 256mb of actually graphics processing memory. when you see a card say 62mb, 128mb, or 256mb, all that is is texture memory. If you are playing something like Flight Simulator 2002 or 2004, it would need to use all 256mb of texture memory if you don't have a RAID setup or 15k rpm SCSI in order to play smoothly. It is nice to have more texture memory (it frees up some of the processing the card would have to do otherwise), but until you are working with ultra-high resolution textures, or massive amounts of textures, that is when 256mb really pays off. It doesn't have much of an effect on the performance most of the time. When I say doesn't have much of an effect, I mean it isn't worth buying the extra texture memory unless you really need it. It does make a difference in performance but most things people do don't utilize enough texture memory to make enough of a difference.

i have no clue why they would need that, it can barely hold up against the 4200. The only reason to have that much mem is for FSAA and AA, however, if u are playing a decent game with 5600 with FSAA and AA turned up the way up, then you prolly wont get any good FPS anyway. The card is just too sucky to have 256 mb IMO

yeah the fx cards are crap i dont know what Nvidia was thinking the ti4200's are better than most fx cards so why did they even create them?
