My last computer had Athlon 2100 that ran super hot. 140 F at it's max speed on the stock heatsink & Fan, so I always had it underclocked. It may have been, in part, due to my sloppy thermal paste job. Anyway, I just finished my new computer, A P4 @ 2.66 with a Zalman CNPS7000 heatsink & fan. The highest I have seen it (during my burn in) was at 108 F. That's insane. It idles at 87 F.
You guys should review some Zalman shit.

Cool Setup...Yeah it could of been the thermal job for sure. I hope u wernt running a tbred. If so I never heard of one running that hot before but it depends on what core you were running, though the heat build up to that level was because something else was not right. Even an old palmino core wouldnt get that hot. Well, dont quote me on that. :D
I setup a friends computer running an asus a7x8x mb and a tbred +1800 XP (overclocked to around +2300 by amd standards) with a thermaltake volcano 9 and his temps never got any higher then 41c , and that was playing bf1942 for about 3 hrs. And i have the exact same setup except the fact i have a palmino core 1800 XP (not overclocked) and my temps reached around 50c, also playing bf1942. Right now i'm waiting for the bartons to come down under a 100 bucks, the 2500 barton already went under a hundred dollars but now i'm waiting for the 3000+ barton to get there. I just wanna max out my mb for cheap, and I need a enermax ps cuz there so sweet.
Btw, nice rig krovisser. Not much on intel cuz there usually so expensive but it looks like you are not hurting on money. Later all

not bad at all. We have to buy an intel proc soon for an intel mobo review coming up. 2.4CGhz from newegg = 180

i just got my new gaming machine all together. i got the barton 2500, asus a7n8x mobo, 40gig maxtor all in an antec slk3700amb case for way less than $1000. still deciding on my final vid card, right now i have a cheap gf4 64mb in it, still plays all my games very well tho. even with a new monitor and vid card, the price is right at a grand.
using the vantec aeroflow, mine stays below 40c. played UT2k3 for 2 hours last night and it never went over 40c.
my buddy uses the same set-up and we OCed his to a 3200 and it runs very stable and around 42c using the volcano 11 hsf.
i say you can't go wrong with the 2500 for the price. i would have liked the 3000, but for the difference in price you could get a better vid card. the 2800 is around $180, maybe go for that one?

Or do as Kurtis and I did, and get one of them crazy 1700+ mofos. Best deal I've ever seen with a CPU.
I got mine up to 2.41 or something GHZ with an Aeroflow, Kurtis hasn't tried his yet. He's waiting for me to give him my mobo :-P

must get Zalman CNPS7000. my p4 2.4c idles at around 40-45. at load it can go up to the lower 60's :( . Problem is I dont think that big butt thing can fit in my case, the stock HSF is only a couple centimeters from my PSU.
