View Full Version : Fav Cases for Under $100.00 ??
I just wanna see the availibility out there :) Preferably with a PS. As you can see with these 3 posts, im building myself a new computer. Well building from the parts im getting and parts from my old pos. Right now im looking at the ANTEC LAN BOY which is 79.99 with 15 shipping at newegg.com but comes with a 350w truesmart power supply or something. SO POST AWAY :D if there is nething to post :D
iono guys do u think the lanboy is good or i was looking at Xoxide X-Elite's case or Enermax's Server Chassis that Kurtis is in love with and reviewed but it seems that enermax is a bit expensive :) with the window n all. help!!! ahh!! hehe ill check on these topics tomarrow. Goodnight.

I love love love love love that enermax case it is well worth the money. The Xaser 3's value is questionable but the enermax case is niiice. I prefer it without the window bc its classier, but if you want to take it to LANs it still looks good if you have a window, just watch out for cable clutter in the huge case. If you want a case that is easy to transport i think you will like the lanboy from reviews i have seen of it
where can i find the best price for the enermax case? i went to www.xoxide.com and it didnt have the model i went to newegg and it had the black windowless model for like 63 with no PS and i went to another site outta many that was on the enermax website on where to buy and they were selling it for 100 without a PS. so i need help located a good priced one :)

im not really sure... just search for the model number, if you can get it for 120 or less with a PSU that would be a badass deal. I wouldn't pay more than 150 for the case with PSU. I dunno lol, I'm on vacation and currently on 56k, searching would be a pain for me from here, maybe Brian can help you. :)
k, and another question. if i got the ANTEC LANBOY, and oc my 2600+ 333fsb, would it get too hott with 2 fans (maybe 3 if i can cut out a 80mm circle on top) and a aero 7+? wat else could i do for air cooling
Kurtis
07-12-2003, 06:43 PM
thats not a very good case for good air cooling (only 2 fans) but you could do it I think, if you don't mind your proc running a little on the hot side
yeah i see wat ya sayin, but that enermax case seems just so damn heavy..and i take my comp places.. i mean not alot of the times but when i do...jeez it will be a bitch how much does it weigh exactly?
Kurtis
07-12-2003, 11:23 PM
i would estimate about 50-60 pounds... but it isn't so heavy you can't transport it.. and if you get that lan party mobo you get a free PC TOTE that will help you carry that big mofo easily

God no! Don't get the enermax if you move it around alot!
Kurtis is the devil, don't listen to him!
but see lol i dont, at least not that much. i go to my friends house and maybe lan center but rarely bring my comp...just the fact if i lan at friends more than once bringing a 50 lb beast with everything in it would be about 60 lol thats one beast.. but ill manage if its the case i decide on..i wish that model was in aluminium/steel with minor steel that would be like a top seller...

lols :P its so nice tho :)
uh... i guess get the lanboy, or maybe just a smaller normal case, perhaps a chieftec dragon bc they are nice, just overly popular... maybe a sonata from antec which we will have a review up of soon... i duno :) look around b4 u buy tho
b4 i make my decision im gunna go home and weigh mine right now my old rig, cuz if thats 50 ill be fine. but like i think i could manage another 10 or so lbs its just that for lanning once in a blue moon would be a bitch with that case.
but one more question or two, the enermax, has 3 fan slots correct? from wat i see on this website it does, so that means only 1 more than a lanboy?? does 1 more significantly cool it.. i could see if its possible to cut out a fan on the top of the lanboy correct? then that work have 3 working fans would that keep cool for a ocing cpu
oh and another question :) if the 3rd fan in the lanboy wouldnt cool it, there is a lanboy type case like 15 dollars cheaper but without the window n accessories, but has 2 120mm fans is that a good amount cooler than 2 80mm to keep cpu cold or should i look to get a bigger case.
omg i found a badass case!!! http://www.xoxide.com/xoxb1.html wow wat do u think of it kurtis or neone else??? and u get a 400w PSU dual fan icute for only 29.99 add on...i think its a good deal for $50 for the case im gunna get the LANPARTY NOW IF I GET THIS CASE!!! and uv lights n shit i need help moding it out now.. :)
Brian

That's pretty sweet looking, if you can't mod your case yourself.
lol wat u trying to say? i dont like the custom windows people do with the stupid rubber stuff around the edge or nething..i think this case good for one who isnt gunna build their "own" case lol. im not that into building a case. god knows who is has no time on their hands if they dont get paid or get something out of it except for the case :/

that one is nice, but maybe kinda flimsy in the stability dept. the cheaper cases tend to flex a lot.
my friend got a similar case to the one you mentioned above, looks great, but very wobbly.
check this one out, if you don't care about pre-modded:
http://www.directron.com/slk3700amb.html
you can run this thing over with a truck. seriously, i can stand on it. it also has 2 120mm fans, cools very well and isn't loud. it's basically a lanboy without the window.
yeah that would be the clincher if i get a cheaper mobo than the NFI lanparty. but right now i think im gunna get that so i want like a window n stuff

i think any of those would be excellent choices. they look to be directron's version of the cheiftec designs, hell they could just be unbadged chieftec overstocks.
cheiftec cases are great...great like cheese.
im think in gettin the dragon version, but not at directron, at newegg because it will be about 118 at newegg including the window, shipping, side window fan, and a 450 PSU. and the one at directron is like 70 WITH a window n side fan but shipping will be much, then so will buying another PSU so i htink its almost the same but 30 bucks for psu wont get me a 450, if neone see's otherwise or knows way to help me the get the MATRIX version of chieftec, with a window for 118 or even 120-125 with a decent PSU and sidefan it would be marvelous ill be searching away myself.
ohhh btw, wats the whole thing with ram and cpu being OEM? is it a big deal? should i get my cpu / ram OEM or RETAIL because im lookin at this ram but it says oem, but it comes with heatspreaders n shit, and i know that cpu comes all by itself so im just curious :D

as you requested. check out this case deal at directron,pr3d if you can stand the color:
http://www.directron.com/mx01yldps.html
you can add the side window for $25 more, still cheaper than newegg i think. plus free shipping, and a good PS.
and may i suggest these IDE cables. they have the molex connectors wired along side the IDE's. i have 'em, very handy.
http://www.directron.com/ide4pincon.html
one caveat, if you order anything from directron that has free shipping, make sure you separate your orders. if you include something else that doesn't have free shipping, sometimes they don't take the shipping fee off the free one. they will refund your $ it if it happens, but it's easier this way.
with respect to OEM products. sometimes OEM stuff comes with a full warranty, sometimes it doesn't. there is another thread on the BB discussing this. i have read that cpu's don't always have a full 3 year warranty when purchased OEM. i have and OEM xp2100 on my home machine and it has never had any probs.
i have only purchased retail box RAM once. never had probs with OEM or otherwise.

My god, those IDE cables are genious!!!
Thanks for sharing. Must go offline now, hurricane tail is hitting us.
I would agree with handrail on the OEM stuff. In my experience, most RAM you buy could be considered OEM, unless you purchased it at a store such as Circuit City. As for CPU's, I think the OEM ones are only covered by the seller for 30 days, then you have to go directly to the manufacturer. I have had fried chips of both varieties. There is usually only about a $5-$10 price difference if that, anyway. I personally go for the retail box which also includes an approved heatsink and fan.
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=11-125-225 this is the case im looking to get. $117 including shippin and all. includes 450 watt power supply, wat were those cables u showed? i dunno ne cables from which, lol i know its sad but im working on it, gunna be a computer nerd soon, just u wait :)
those r for cdroms n harddrives or cdroms only or wat? and yea.. im lost, can u possibly find some on newegg in some like uv reactive or silver or sumthin :D ty
http://www.directron.com/ide4pincon.html I believe these are the cables you are looking for. They integrate the power cable with the rounded IDE cable.
ya..to cdroms? or sumthin?
handrail

yeah man, they go to cdroms, hard drives. IDE devices they are called. those yellow ones aren't UV reactive, but they do have the molex 4 pin power connectors built into them. basically, they are handier because usually IDE cables don't have the power connectors wired in with them. helps keep the wire mess down. and wire mess you will have if you put several fans in your machine.
just look at some of the other IDE cables and you will notice the difference. that's how i learned about building computes, just read the descriptions and looked at everything i could, asked friends and tech boards like this one.
good luck
do they only come in yeller

the only ones i have seen are in yellow. but that is just at directron, i imagine there are other colors out there that feature the power connectors.
i could care less about color as i have no side window for curious people to peer into.
hehe cool. ill get em if icant find ne other colors cuz it looks like a good cable management.. should i only get one? or so? im gunna have 2 cd roms and 1 hd. and wat length
Probably you will need 2. You don't want to put a hard drive on the same channel as a CD anyway. The 18" one should do, unless you have a tall case, then the 24" might be better. Also, for cable/wire managment, you can pick up some flexible plastic wiring conduit at any auto parts place. I got 10ft for $5 in a lovely yellow color. The stuff also works well to protect the wiring from getting caught in any of your fans.
k ill be gettin 2 sometime :)
so brian when u like gunna get that nfII board, within the next week? cuz im wanna get all this stuff bought before CAL season starts so i can reinstall everything n such after i reformat. thanx.
and is this a good case? for its price http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=11-125-225 ? and do u know wat PSU it comes with? it says 450 watt psu and thats it.. i mean i might get a psu uv cover and it asks if i need another cutout for a fan and iono if the thing has 2 fans or wat? can u help meh :)
Brian

I will test the board within a few days and give you the results before I do the actual review. If I have time :-/
Just fyi, that case will not fit well with a PSU cover. The cover is made out of 1/8" acrylic (usually) and will make the PSU 1/8" taller and the screw holes will not properly line up due to the support bar which the PSU rests on.
k :/ try b4 the 23rd :) cuz thats when newegg will have black func pads in, so im ordering 2500+ barton, that case (if u know that psu is decent), fUnC pad, corsair xms 512mb pc3200, aero 7+, and the nfII dfi lanparty for a grand total today of (drum rolls...dun.dun.dun.dun.dun.)
