Alright, I'm lookin to build a new computer for myself (I'm tired of sharing one w/ my parents), but I won't be getting a job until spring probally. I found 2 cases I really like:

http://www.colorcases.com/cases/0501.htmland
http://www.colorcases.com/cases/0202.html

are these any good and is it ok to buy one now, or should i wait because i don't want to buy a case and have it be outdated before I can buy parts for it.

Thanks alot

Dont know anything about the case but I like the first one. And i dont really think a case can be outdated, its mostly just their for looks. Also if your low on cash try www.newegg.com, they have alot of different cases and alot come with power supplies for about the same price as the ones you linked.

Personal opinion = the second one.

You have the option of doing all the cool modding and having that seen right off without the hassel of cutting your own window (unless that is modding you want to do) because it is already there.

+ the first has a fan covered up by some kind of clear plexy - wtf is that about? How is that gona help? And the drive bays look as if they stick out some - in a tight desk that could become a problem as you get caught on it as you walk past.

And although the first 'looks' like it has the front usb pannel it isn't in the features list like the second so i would go for that.

How much are you looking to spend on a case? I wouldn't personally recommend either of those, not if you plan on upgrading often.

Cases don't become outdated, however some just don't have very many features. Cases are manufactured by standard form factors that allow standard motherboards to fit as well as the power supply, and all the devices that go into the 5.25" and 3.5" drive bays.

Give me a price to let me know how much you are willing to spend and I can recommend some good cases.

I could probally do $50 w/o a PS or $75 w/ a PS, mabey more, depends on how cool the case is.

Dont know how things are priced over in US but over here in good ol' blighty you would have problems getting a 'good' case with a psu for less than £60 (about $80... i think;)) But it all depends on what your gona do with it.

If your not getting the computer till the new year it will probably be best to wait till then to buy it all in one go. Imagin you go out and buy the sweetest case ever (at this point in time) and then it gets reduced/replaced by newer model? Bummer.

Also if you hang around till your gona buy all in one go some retailers might cut you a deal for spending soo much with them ;) cheaper kit anyone?

http://www.furioustech.com/x-ray/Index.php looks cool and comes with a 400w psu.

Smart move... dont stop with the reading up of reviews so you learn loads about what is good in a case. That way when you get it you'll be well informed and able to pick right away... i spent ages and ages debating my system and now i have it i am soooooooo happy :D TechLounge is really good for that.

Just realised i am talking to you in two different threads lol!!

Don't forget to get the case this is right for you. If you plan on putting lots of stuff in the case (front LCD, lots of drives and etc) you might want to look at a full tower case. If you want small and portable, you might want to look at the LAN party cases. Most people end up with the mid tower cases.

Also think about the material for the case. Aluminum is a price premium but tends to be better constructed and lighter. Pre-modded cases can be nice, but also are like buying a cookie cutter sports car. Look at what you want to use the case for and then try to figure what particular case you want.

hold off on buying a case if you want a good quality one. If you don't spend $100 or more on a case, you may be disappointed with what you get. You get what you pay for, and that holds true no matter what you are buying.

It all depends on what you want. If you don't need toolless PCI slots, 7 fans, and a removable motherboard tray, why spend more than you need?

Thanks for all the help. I'm gonna look around some more and reasearch some more cases.

I know I am going to catch a lot of hell for this, but one of my favorite cases is from Enlight. http://www.directron.com/en7230.html The thing is not flashy, it is that hideous beige, but they come with a front case fan, and a spot for one in the rear. They are extremely easy to take apart. $50 dollars gets you a 300 W power supply and a very sturdy case. I have personally built 10 systems using these cases and would still recommend them. But then again, that is my opinion for what it is worth.

not bad for 50 bucks, you can get some decent deals cheap, i just prefer feature full cases :)

Alas no. Ebuyer had them on a little special offer. It just seemed to jump out off the page, run round my head a few times shouting "I'M A CASE THAT FITS ALL YOUR NEEDS, WOBBLE WOBBLE WOBBLE!" so i bought it.

NOTE: Not ALL my NEEDS...

Sweet.

So that case dosen't need fans?

And why arent there covers on the front or back?

Hippy

No fans, no covers shown, but i bet it comes with a swivel front and the rear is left open to help with cooling.

those cases are too much for $50 even though they have free shipping
youd have to buy a PS, fans, lighting, etc...
just get a nice antec or something for $80 including a PS
a window isnt really that important, and you can save like $20 or so
newegg has a special right now http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=11-129-122&DEPA=1
skyhawk and raidmax also have some nice cheap cases

Alright, well looking around it looks like I'll have to spend more for a case. I'm now looking for a good case, lots of features, preferably black w/ a clear window(not one of those bluish tinted things).

I want to go w/ a Black and Red theme so if it has some red on it thats cool.

I took a look at the Thermaltake Xaser III V1000A and it looks great (a little pricey though :? ).

I'm open for suggestions, anybody have any ideas?

Hmm... looks like the Xpoint TheTechLounge is giving away right now, and look, it has red on it too.:) If you were to win, there you have it, your new case. 8)
