The only experience I have had with Intel recently is in my sony vaio laptop, but i didn't install it or anything obviously... Just wondering if you guys prefer to build new computers with AMD or Intel. Please share which, and why :) Just curious :)
Although Intels are more expensive, I think I may make the switch to Intel just because they perform better and some of them can be OCed quite nicely :)

everyone i know uses amd for price and performance alone
intel is just to damn high for boards and processors

AMD for me. Was the price that decided it in the end. Although i have been using a P4 1.4 for ages and they kick arse for stability.

yeah but if you have the money and you want top performance, intel is nice :)
but yea for the price amd is more of a value, we all know that :P
If u want the latest, the greatest and the most expensive. Then INTEL is your choice.
If u want a good perfomer, a good troubleshoot community, and cheap as dirt. Then AMD is your choice.
last one i braught was amd 1.4 but now lookin at the prices and performance, pentium 2.4c is not that much more then amd2600 and the 2.4c is said to be great at overclocking can get around 3ghz on soem good air so i think its what ill be getting shortly

the 2.4 is at least $50 more than the amd xp 2600. In fact, it costs just about as much as the xp2800. Plus, the mobos for pentiums are a lot more expensive than the mobos for amd.

I have always prefered AMD, ever since my 1st computer w/ the AMD 286 chip
I haven't had any troubles w/ AMD. The one computer I had w/ a Intel was very buggy and I hated it.
$50 for 2.4 and $50 for the mobo is well worth it to me anyway

Personally I choose AMD for price/performance ratio. Though I do have to say that I've heard of less problems with Intel compatible chipsets than with some AMD chipsets..
Intel is the one to beat at the moment for top performance. The new boards with dual channel memory and 800mhz bus is pretty good. If I had the money I would pick one up.

well if u have money to spend, then INTEL would prolly be a better choice.

Lemme see, I'm an AMD buff, but the 2.4C is looking mighty fine right now and would eat any AMD solution out right now for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight snack. Well, maybe I exaggerated a bit, but really, it is great. If you have the money, defienetly go for it.:) But then again, my 1700+ cost me $60 and I have it overclocked to 2.22Ghz right now on air cooling.:)
I have always been an AMD fan myself. Their chips have been of good quality at an inexpensive price. I just built a Barton system for myself not long ago. All the systems I build for work are also AMD's. Although right now I would probably go with an Intel on a server platform with the new Hyperthreading capability, especially if it would be hosting high workload processes. But I must admit, the AMD Opterons are looking mighty tempting now..

the opterons are designed for servers. If u are refering to the 64 bit computing, then the hammerheads are extreme.
Of course for servers. Have you seen the dual opterons in the 1 or 2U configuration?http://www.opteronics.com/opteron-servers.htm You could run multiple game servers on the same system. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of the AMD-64's, but until the games are written for them, and a new OS is installed, it would really take the fun out of it. :(

Actually, the Opterons and AMD-64s are exactly the same, it's quite odd actually...

yeah for sure, but isnt the AMD-64 supposed to include SSE2??? Still, at a lower clock speed, it should perform just as good as a 2.5 ghz cpu.
I think the Opteron vs AMD64 is the same difference as the Athlon XP vs the Athlon MP. One is just scaled to multiprocessing while the other is not.

Just about, yeah, they are even releasing the first Athlon64s on the Socket 940 like the Opterons... they are all crazy men(and women for those who care:P)

AMD used to be my choice... but since they've decided to charge basically the same price as intel... I'd say Screw AMD and "GO" compatibility.....

I would agree with the high price on the new stuff, but I still think that AMD is cheaper on the stuff that has been out for a while. I also think getting a top notch motherboard on Intel is a little more expensive compared with AMD motherboards.
Yep, the older AMD chips are quite cheap. $60 for an XP 1700 http://www.directron.com/xp147.html and a good Mobo http://www.directron.com/a7n8x1.html is only $100. The P4's are still priced higher ~$200 http://www.directron.com/socket478cpu.html. Even the PIII's are still expensive http://www.directron.com/fcpga.html I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Intel chips are still used much more widely than the AMD's, especially in the enterprise multiprocessor environment.

for right now i like intel, i've only used amd once on my backup desktop...but since my dad buys all my computer parts for me right now, i go with intel.
as soon as i go to college though, i imagine i'll be switching to amd since it's cheaper...

I think as of now intel owns the market in performance. I'm upgrading my Tbird, which ran WAY to hot for its own good, for the P4 2.4c. intels really taken it w/ 800mhz fsb and duel channel memory along with amazing OC'in ability. Either way whether ur waitin to save up money for Intel or waiting for AMD to catch up u'll be waiting so go for the sure thing and get Intel, even though they're  mwhahaha

I would prefer to use an Intel, but they are too overpriced. So for now, I'm gonna say go with AMD unless you wanna drop a good chunk of change for and Intel.
Intel's run really stable, but my AMD Duron 1.1GHz hasnt given me any problems at all. it's actually been more stable than my most recent Pentium system! LOL
ive switched to intel since the canterwood/spingdale boards are so cheap. only the processor costs about $76 more, but i think it's worth it. this board (IC7) has a lot of life left in it as i'm sure it will go through several different ram upgrades and maybe even another processor! :)

the 1st generation of the prescott yes, but 2nd generation no (brand new socket type...its not even a socket..its like... LGA ...land grid array im pretty sure it stands for.....prety much jst flat pads that make contact )
but yeah ram it will probably go through easily...its not like it really matters whether its "officially" supported or not...just aslong as ddr stick around and ddrII doesnt show up
