1) Updating your BIOS
2) Updating your motherboard north/southbridge drivers
3) Updating your video card drivers (or backing up to something not so recent)
4) Try a different card, if one is available just for testing
5) Buy a new power supply( worked for me)

Don't forget, reformatting fixes a lot of things. Sometimes something just gets corrupt and bam, formatting fixes.

updating the BIOS might wanna be the last thing you try unless you have a REALLY old mobo. For something like an new game to suddenly restart your computer because of a BIOS problem seems somewhat unlikely.

if that happens, you might have a badger infestation on your hands... be very careful, badgers are vicious!

Ofcourse it could always be because you overclocked too far for stabilities sake and you just need to lower your settings. :)

As with anything, see if it easily reproducible, then work slowly to try to fix it. Changing a bunch of things at once will only get confusing. First check the game's support page, it may have either a workaround or a patch which may address the problem.

BTW if it IS a badger infestation use THIS (http://www.directron.com/a1357.html)

Although I'm not part of the joke in any way, I believe they are referring to the power of the Tt Smartfans and shoving a badger into it for its demise... correct me if I'm wrong. :P

You are correct MaNiAk21. Handrail gets the honors for starting the badger jokes. It is just a selfpropagating joke. :D

:evil: Sorry now if i step on anyone's toes - i understand your trying to help but...

Dude that 'list' is only semi helpfull!!! Where is the information that could lead to someone finding out about the problem?
The investigation procedure - retrace your steps on any previous changes to hardware/overclocking. Disconecting other devices? And how about some info on HOW to update some of the things there - Update Southbridge/Northbridge drivers: could well mean nothing to some people!!!
You've ignored the most simple thing - checking game updates/patches??? Or even if there are known bugs by looking in game related forums or checking it out on another computer (friends setup).

AND every game is different as is everyones setup, which you completly forgot to mention: what could help someone might not work for another person or system.

Posting list of things to do are very nice but if you dont explain it properly or even link to somewhere that does it is more counter productive than helpful. From reading your list i am up a s*£& creak without a paddle as i cant run Medievil: Total war with:
1) Upto date bios;
2) NO IDEA HOW TO UPDATE NB/SB - yes i am someone that doesn't know how!
3) Upto date drivers (not just video card... conflicts...);
4) Game works FINE on another card (how is this helping me solve MY problem?);
5) Brand spanking new 430WTrue Power.

Shockingly enough at the end of that... gamey, gamey no runny, runny.

Again sorry for the post... but i had to say something before someone posts: My BIOS update screwed my computer/how do i update drivers/game works fine on another computer/why would a new psu help/what is a southbridge etc... etc...

Please elaborate on the subject... or just plain spend more than 2 minuets putting together something that is so much more complicated than your 'list' suggests.

On something I CAN help you with -

These are all badgers. Not having met one myself i cant tell you much about them, ecpet if you see one run!!! A badger is one of natures most horrific and evil (but cool) creatures. They can easily eat you... yes you, all of you, if you dont run far far away!! *shudders* *rocks*

If you suspect Badgers, carry a REALLY log extension cord, a powersupply and TT fan. You might want two, just in case.....they could have friends. :D

Yes, never screw with the BIOS unless you absolutely know what you are doing. Very rarely have I ever seen probelms with games caused by the BIOS, misconfigured BIOS maybe, but that is another thread.

A while back I was playing this game called 'Vietnam MedEvac Demo'. I had a TNT 2 video card and my cousin had a GeForce 4. It worked fine for him, didn't lag at all. On mine it lagged a little, but not THAT bad. Anyways... on mine, it would restart all of a sudden. When it came back up I got the 'system recovered from a serious error' deal. It was kind of wierd, I loved the game, so I kept playing. After about 6 times I stopped. I stopped because I didn't want to hurt my computer! :)
