Online sales will probably be going down becuase of this, not that it will make much of a difference most of the time, but it can make a big difference on something big you've payed for or won...

In some cases this will make not buy whatever it is online.. just because in most cases the shipping cost will balance out the no tax.. So if you add sales tax and shipping it might make the item more expensive. I know that a lot of Amazon.com stuff would be more expensive for me that way.

Of course I guess I could get an out on it.. I could have everything shipped to my parents in DE.. no state sales tax there.. :)

Hahaha, that'd work just fine.:P But knowing the way the US government likes to think they own the world, you will be paying it whether you are in Kansas or Japan... :P

It seems reasonable to pay tax on purchased items, if the tax is consistantly applied, and actually returned to your state. and there lies the problem, you buy for a small business out of state, they charge you tax, but do they ever send it in? or is it extra "profit" for them.
so they come up with this complex , and expensive system, which large companies (amazon, newegg, tiger, etc. can easily comply with, but pretty much locks the little guys out.
As far as "free" shipping, it's not really free, just an agrrement between the seller and a shipping company ie exclusive shipper status in return for reduced rates, the sellers protion is wrapped in to the item price, because surveys show people dislike the added cost of shipping.
again this benifit large/high volume sources, who also get the benifit of volume pricing from the manufacter.
Makes things cheaper now, but before long the competition is bought out/dries up and you're stuck buy model X from megalowmart because they are the only one, and they only carry a couple models.
