did you first uninstall your old drivers?
you could boot in safe mode, remove the new drivers and reinstall the old

What OS are you running? I know that Windows 98 is picky with drivers, very picky. Windows XP is a little more "friendly".

TADAAAA!!!! Me is back :) Did i miss anything???

Bloody driver update cost me everything... not that much was here but hey it was a plain inconveniance! Windows was soo messed up that trying to repaire it didn't work, uninstalling drivers/installing old drivers didn't work... nothing worked so WIPE! Yes back to square #1.
Only just finished putting the bassics on (keyboard software on = me back here) so now ready to roll once again.

Cost? Nothing, i did the few things i had to myself. In end came down to formatting hard drive and reinstalling everything so the cost was time... lots of it.

formatting shouldn't take that long, not if you have xp at least

Although time may have been a bad thing to lose, I am sure you have gained more knowledge than what you have started with. I have spent hours on different errors... even a while back when I was reformmatting using fdisk from a boot disk. But I have learned lots from the experience :)

Yes - do not install a driver you dont need even if everyone else's installation went fine.

Yes, experience is a great teacher. But it helps if you don't have to rely on the peice of equipment which you just fried. (just lost internet from friday to sat after botched service pack update on router  , got back up sun morning)

I will admit I am kind of new with hardware. So I bought a new computer, just to use it as a "test" computer and stuff. I don't really want to go on my main computer, that I mostly use, and mess it up. So I use the other one... and actually 3 friends donated their old computers to me, and I have taken those apart and learned lots about those...

takeing things apart is the 1st step...

i took things apart al the time (stil do, but now i dont ask "wat are all these extra screws and stuff for???" lol ;) )

for example, i just took apart my ps2 just for the hell of it...hella heatsink villa lol

Ah... yea, but I don't like playing with big equipment. I mean, when I know my stuff, and can say that I know what I am doing... sure. I pretty much do, thanks to Brian! He's helped me A LOT, I've probably asked him about 50 questions... he's told me a lot.... and when I was taking a different computer apart, I saw what he was talking about.

Older computers are always odd, becuase the standards of then are different from now, the first I took apart was an older one, and I was just learning, then I got my own and learned all of that then... but I'm not very good with legacy/older stuff, just good at guessing.:)

I have the Nforce Ultra 400 Chipset?
Was the hdd corrupt?
It is because it replaces microsoft ide drivers with nvidia ones, do a roll back in system management to the default microsoft one that came with your o/s.
Also if using the sata hdd and adapter on some motherboards set the delay to 1ms.
