anyone out there a fan of the Thief series?
im addicted to the darn thing, i dunno how many times i've played thief and thief II all the way thru, and i can't wait for thief III to come out...using the quake 3 engine....*drool*
sure the graphics aren't all that great in both thiefs, but it's one addicting game...although i only really like the levals that are more realistic...i dont like the stupid zombies or robots or anything, just good ol' fashioned sneaking and stealing...

holy crap that game looks awsome. never played theif but I love stealth games, especially 1s where u can stab ppl  . is there neway to do 3rd person like hitman? I would think it'd be harder to control stealth in 1st person but w/e it looks sweet, I'll def be looking out for this 1. thanks for the link

the whole idea behind thief is not to kill anyone, and make it like you were never there. which i love, it's kinda boring running around killing everybody sometimes.
as far as the 3rd person idea, i doubt they will make it 3rd person compatible. the previous 2 thief games were 1st person only, which added more to the difficulty and just made it feel more real.
the best part of the game is the suspense, there were levels where i swear my heart-rate was up at unhealthy levels!
for the stealth part, there's a little light gem at the bottom of the screen that show's how visible you are. one cool thing about thief 3 is that you can now climb stone walls! which would have really helped in the first 2 thief games.
i suggest you go out and buy thief 1 and 2, not only to get familiar with the story if you get thief 3, but also to get you used to that sorta gameplay etc.
the graphics on thief 1 and 2 aren't exactly great, but they're still my favorite games ever.
thief gold you can probably get for around $5 now, thief 2 probably around $15

exactlly, couldnt agree w/ u more. If i wanna kill people I'll go play postal, gta or something. as long as detection doesnt mean automatic death I def enjoy sneaking around "trying" to avoid things that could compromise the mission. think hitman 2 played the stealth/action mix perfectly, rarely did i ever get in full out fire fights but If i did I knew that I could escape death. Im guessin there are no sniper rifles, assult rifles or grenades in theif :D . its prob for the better since my fav weapons in hitman were the piano wire and knife  silenced pistol to the back of the head is cool too.
yea I'll see if my local game stop has a copy. I might actually have a free copy that I got w/ a vid card somewhere but god knows where it is. $15 sounds good.

imho the weapons in thief are the coolest part.
here's what you have, can vary with each mission and you only have a limited supply of them...
blackjack: great for knocking out enemies with one whack to the back of the head, then picking up their bodies and moving them so the other guards don't find them
short sword: has no real use unless you're in a real pinch and have to slice a couple guards to get away
short bow with the following arrows...
broadhead arrow: just the normal deadly piercing arrow
water arrow: has a water crystal on the tip to shoot at torches on the walls so you can move around in the shadows
fire arrow: very expensive and very loud & deadly. not good if you're trying to be quiet and stealthy
gas arrow: emits knockout gas on contact to knock out a guard
moss arrow: shoot on the ground to move silently across it. handy for metal floors.
rope arrow: shoot in the woodwork and a rope hangs down that you can climb up
noisemaker arrow: distracts guards by making a really loud & annoying clicking noise which makes the guard walk towards the sound to help you get by.
then you get a few other goodies...
flash bombs: sort of like flashbangs in rainbow six, temporarily blinds guards to help you get away
mines: just normal explosive mines, gas mines with knockout gas, and flash mines which do the same as flash bombs
flares: helps light up areas and distract guards sometimes
lockpicks: for opening doors.....duh
and if you know the story...Garrett loses an eye in thief 1, so he has a mechanical eye in thief 2, with a handy zoom feature. made by the mechanists. he also has a handy scouting orb, which he can throw and then see from the orb's view thru his mechanical eye. really helps to look around corners and such
potions...
healing potion: heals....hence the name...
air potion: gives a little extra air if you're under water
slowfall potion: makes you able to jump from high up and gradually fall to the ground without injury
speed potion: gives an extra burst of speed
invisibility potion: makes you invisible for a few seconds, but guards can still hear every noise you make.

I haven't played Thief since the demo of the first one. I only played that one because it would run on NT, so I played at work. :D I don't know why I never got the Thief games, it's definitely something I'll have to remedy in the near future!
