I just got a GeForce FX5600 128mb. It's really nice but I get an ugly graphical error sometimes. I was playing BattleField 1942 for hours yesterday without any problems but when I played DesertCombat mod I got the error. I think it is caused by the video card being overtaxed or not having enough CPU power.
My question is: is this a problem with my specific card or do other FX5600's do this?
I would also like to know what a similar quality card with a similar price would be.
Here is what the error looks like. The screen gets pixellated and you can see through objects in places.
I have a screenshot but I couldn't get it uploaded.

got the latest FX drivers?

Yep.
looks like we might have a failing graphics card.
Actually, try the not-so-latest drivers. I think 44.03 is the version I am refering to. You should be able to find them off of Nvidia's web site at the following: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html I have heard of many people having graphics errors with the latest drivers. Just uninstall the drivers you have now and install the 44.03 version. I would bet that the artifact may disappear. Of course that is assuming that it is a driver problem. :D

theres the image he sentme
it looks similar to my predicament....just not as "neat" (mine were colums of fuckups...urs looks like its jsut random shit)
do u have decent case ventilation (arond the vid card most importantly)...
i saw email techsupport or somethin and send along that picture...most likely it'll need an rma (looks like ram is iether overheating or is ...bad...at times...lol..too drunk to give a technical answer ahha.. )

what sort of cooling do you have in your case and on the vid card?

Heres what I have in terms of cooling. There is a fan in the rear back of my case. A CPU fan. There is also a little fan on the GFX card. There are little slots on the side of the case too for ventialation. I'm pretty sure I actually did have this problem when the case was open though.
The card overheating sounds logical because the glitch isn't always there it's just after a while it will sometimes do it.
It doesn't affect game menus or normal Windows or non-game programs. It doesn't go away until I restart my computer and if it was heat wouldn't it go away after the card had cooled a bit?
If you have an object against the sky so there are no models behind it it looks fine, but if you have overlapping objects is where the glitch is.

well, i'm not sure what the prob is, but i know the setup you have must keep it extremely hot...
you need to get a fan sucking in air... is there a spot in the front of your case for an intake fan (maybe more than one?)

There is a spot for a fan at the front but it's empty right now. I think I'll be getting a fan then. The plastic front cover on my case covers alot of that front area though it just has 32 really small holes if I did get a second fan I could mount it there and just take the front panel off.

it should be okay, even if the holes are small, of course you could cut a hole there and put a fan grill if you are into modding

So I should have an input fan in the front and output in the back?

yup. output fan = exhaust fan btw.
You actually have 2 exhaust fans already you just dont realize it. The Power supply fan sucks air through the power supply and spits it out the back of the case. If you can fit 2 intake fans in the front that would be best.
OR
One intake fan on front, and one intake fan on left panel. thats even better.

Right I'll try to do that ASAP.
I might be able to h4x another input fan inside my case where the slits are :)
