I have a mobo with dual LAN. Is it somehow possible to network another PC to my computer? I'm already set up to a network in our house, but don't feel like putting another wall jack in. Thanks for any advice.

I know thats how our home network is set up. But i'm hoping maybe if I get a CAT5 (maybe some special one or something :))cable and hook it will work. Wishful thinking apparently?

youd need a crossover cable i think..its just a regular cat 5 with the wires crossed over at one end..
but ya, you can double your computer as a router...some ppl even have a computer whose sole purpose is to be a router...

OK, Thanks guys, I'll search the web for that cable.
My motherboard is an Epox 8RDA3+
I think if you want internet access from the second computer you will have to set up a static route. The easiest thing might be just to get a small hub/switch. After my Netgear router died, I just put a second network card in an old computer, but I have everything routed through a server. I have never tried connecting 2 workstations, but I imagine with the right cable (crossover) and some modified settings, everything should work.

A crossover with, proxy software like (free)
Proxy by AnalogX (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm) would work, however crossovers always cost 2-3x as much so a cheap NAT router and a standard patch cable would be a better choice.

A 50ft crossover cable is $9.50. How can this be 2-3x more expensive?

pwned
lol
only drawback i think is that the computer acting as ther outer would have to be on for the ohter computer to have internet
youd have your ethernet cable from calble/dsl modem coming into one lan port, and then a crossover cable from ur other lan port to the other computer....esssentially your computer becomes the gateway i guess i duno if its the proper term for the ohter computer to access the internet...
theres some nics ive seen with like 4 ports on them, which i can only assume are for ppl who use a separate computer only for sharing internet with others....for a home this oesnt make much sense, but you could if you wanted to set one up. It's just like having a NAT router, but mroe customizable and probably more secure (if you know what you are doing)
