Win2k Shortcut Lag

I work for MTV/Viacom. We recently converted our machines from NT to WIN2k. The boxes are noticably slower, but with one extremely slow feature. It seems with any shortcut on the box, being on a network user, or local administrator, there is a delay when you attempt to right click. Some boxes it will take 5 seconds, and other boxes will take literally 20-30 seconds until the dialog box appears with the right click options such as properties, etc. Has anyone else felt this speed on a windows 2k network ? We do have novell, along with novells client which I think has something to do with the problem. If anyone has any hints, or ideas that I can use on these boxes to speed up the right click on shortcuts only, I would greatly apprciate it.

Being that the systems were running NT before, how much RAM is in these machines. I have noticed form several of my machines that the amount of RAM can affect the speed at which the menus poop up. If you have less than 128 Mb, it is most likely using the pagefile quite heavily.

There may also be a registry setting for the delay time on the menu. Although if this were the case, all the machines would be of the same speed.

Yeh. We have our page file at like 500. The computer works fine though with out the novell client. I think it has to do something with that.

Are there any networking related items on the right-click menu? The Novell client may just be trying to locate something.

Yes, only "Netware Copy" Our novell server is being replaced by the end of the yr, hopefully that will be a fix, but its just very aggrivating working on machines with this problem. It makes it take twice as long.

You might be able to remove the item on the right-click menu through the registry. This may speed things up. I know that tweakui utility for win2k is great for removing all the "new" list items which can speed up menu processing greatly.
