But here is a webpage I found very helpful. http://www.bugtoaster.com/dw15/Reports/AllCrashes.asp?ShowApps=true&CompanyName=&MaxCrashItems=50&BaseName=ndetect.exe&Submit=Search.. this is what I found,, and ohhh Merry Christmas Happy New Year

I am confused, was this a virus or a very poorly written application?

It is part of Norton Live Update. I guess you could say it was poorly written. It sometimes has problems with other programs at start up, especialy this Logitech program called Immersion Desktop. At start up you get this error that says norton caused a page fault in kernel32.dll. To fix it you gotta reset your registry to a time before you installed Norton or the program that Norton has conflicts with. So if you havn't backed up your reg then you gotta do it the hard way. Load the Windows repair module from the CD and then copy the reg files from the CD on to your hdd.
Sounds like an issue with norton. I have run Norton on several machines, yet not seen this error. Any idea what it likes to conflict with?

It has never happened to me either, and it doesn't seem to have happened to many others. But I searched google and this is about the only useful info I could find.

Now I know why I am not a big fan of Norton.

Well this is the first situation i've heard of, I don't think it will affect my thoughts on the company. Still less mistakes than microsoft :)

I have had a problem with them once. After running Norton Disk Doctor I was no longer able to boot from my hdd and the Western Digital diagnostic CD said the damage was unrepairable, so I just zeroed the hdd and started over. It probably wasn't actually caused by Disk Doctor, I think the hdd already had a problem, but I stopped using Norton anyways.

i like norton better than mcaffe. i've a lot of luck with norton ghost, antivirus, and various other norton applications.
well except for one problem ive had. i run norton antivirus on my comp and i can never connect to download the live-updates, even though im subscribed. i figure it must be a problem with my router that's blocking it. but i dunno if i should open up a port to fix it or what. anybody else had this problem?...
mcaffe is supposed to be the worst their is....even among the free versions out their.
mcaffee software has always had a high system overhead, and caused all sorts of conflict issues. I am a big fan of Trend Micro. I use their Server Protect line and I have been very pleased with it.
