if u already took out the cpu, have u visually inspected it?

yeah i put it into another mnotherboard and it didnt work either, and the mobo ot the ga-7n2 i think, its gigabytes nforce 2 , its fairly new, i was thinking of getting a duron 1.4 or 1.6 because their in my price range, but its still a little bit expencive for a 16 year old on holidays thats unemployed :P
Sounds nasty. Right, if it doesn't work in another motherboard then there are two explanations which I can think of now (well actually there's 3, but it's a bit mad...). Either one or more of the pins on the underside is damaged in some way, or, maybe one of the circuits in the processor is fried, possibly because it's been overloaded with data and AMD didn't see that flaw, or because when it was being manufactored the machine somehow made a mistake (like it was 12 microns out of place or something). As for the replacement processor, if you want seomthing cheap, over here in the UK you can get an Athlon 2000+ for about 45 quid. Which is about 83 dollars. You can probably get cheaper in America, the the 2000+ is quite good, it's fairly cheap and has an alright clock speed. Although I wouldn't recomend it to a hardcore gamer.

Umm, American. Don't know what it is in Aus. The Duron sounds a better buy though.

yeah even though the athlon is faster the duron is more wallet friendly, which is what matters at the moment
