On my buddy list for AIM, all my idle and signed off buddies are in white, which is the same color as the background. So now I cannot see the names of idle or signed off buddies. I don not know how this happened, so I don not know how to fix it.

 ill give you that it should be easy to figure out and you can change the font color in the chat window in preferences. but i havent seen that you can change font colors on the buddy list itself (i have seen where you can change the font).

try reinstalling AIM? uninstall it and then re-install it. That will probably do it. =)

I am having the same problem with my buddy list disappearing. I have tried un and re-installing IM several times, but every time i open it, my buddy list comes up with the folders i created in it, but none of my buddies' names! i.e. it will say Friends from School 0/0 when there used to be over 50 people in that folder. I am baffled.

Hmm... I am afraid that your buddies were somehow deleted from the AIM server then... When you first start AIM and add an account, it should pull all the buddies from the server. If it doesn't, I can't think of any client-side reason for the problem :-/

I have the same problem, except it happened after I deleted my buddy list because I added the wrong one. Now I can only add groups, not my buddies. It only happens with one of my two screen names. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and it didn't work. Can someone please help?
Can anyone help me with my AIM problem please? I signed on at a friends house and my buddylist was fine, i got off, then signed back on and it showed my buddylist as i have no buddies. So the next day, i tried signing on my screen name and it signs me on but i have no buddies, its like my buddylist got Erased. but i dont no how. Can anyone please help me!

have you tried logging into AIM Express?
www.aim.com on the left bar there is something called AIM Express, a browser-based AIM. doubt it will help you but it's worth a shot.

it sounds like they're gone.... :-\
the way AIM works is it stores your buddy list on an AOL server. I would try something like Trillian as a last resort but i really don't think that will work.
You can also try contacting AOL and telling them what happened and see if they have a solution.
Does AIM have a number i can call?? because iv already sent them somethin online. Whats trillian? will that bring my buddies back?
What about restoring my computer?

formatting or going back to a restore point isn't going to help you, the data is stored on their servers not locally on your hard drive.

To sign up for AOL or get help with your existing account, connection, or other technical issues please call
1-800-827-6364.

AIM is owned and operated by AOL. (AOL Instant Messenger)
There is no tel. # listed for AIM, so I can only suggest calling the above number for tech support regarding AIM.
do you think ill get my buddies back??
and how do you think they got deleted, i didnt do anything...
In theory, if you connected to AIM using a third party IM client (such as Trillian) it should pull down all your buddies off the server, that is if they still exist.
So how do you do that? please help
So are you saying it will delete all my buddies for good? or bring them back up?

You need to call AOL, I gave you the number...
I have a feeling they are gone, but you will only find out if you call AOL and talk to their tech support and see if there is anything they can do.

Mine deleted too, once I just signed on, and all my buddies were gone!
Because AIM buddies are stored on the server, when you sign in , they should be loaded automatically. A good test is to install an alternate IM client such as GAIM or Trillian. When you log into you AOL IM account, the buddy list should be downloaded. It is possible that the buddy list was somehow deleted locally, and those changes got synchronized up to the network. This syncronization would cause the server to therefor delete its local copy and you would of course be left with nothing in the end. After all, this is AOL we are talking about here! Their complete lack of technical support should give you a good indication as to the reliability of their software.
