Well, I grabbed myself up a new video card finally, got one of those gimped "Pro" cards from Sapphire that only have 128-bit memory, but I don't care, it was cheaper and still a HUGE leap from my GF2MX400. It works perfectly, drivers install and everything is great, until I reboot, and at the finish of the XP load it says "Sync. out of range" and reboots to my choosing last working settings (resetting the newly installed drivers and pushing my resolution back to 640x480) or Safe Mode. I have tried everything from flushing out ALL traces of my old NVIDIA drivers, to trying different Catalyst and Omega drivers and no matter what I do, it won't boot normal and keep the drivers. I'm getting really sick of this and I don't know what I'll do if the card is just fucked. I think I might try and reformat but I'd like to try EVERYTHING that I possibly can before I do that. As I'm a whore for eBay and that's where I got it.. there isn't much of a chance to replace or re-sell without lying to someone... :cry: Thanks for anything you've got, I just can't figure it out. :|

Any chance of checking it out on someone elses PC? Hook it up and check if they get the same error... if not... then I doubt the card's screwed... also, you may like to try posting to a tech at Sapphire or Nvidia, on either of their websites (if they support that feature... but I'm a lazy ass and can't be bothered to check).
Hope these help.

also, if you can't get help any other way... check out the www.whirlpool.net website. It's an Australian Broadband choice website, but contains discussion forums on a multitude of things including PC Hardware...
'Sync out of range' usually indicates that the monitor cannot handle the refresh rate or video resolution that the card is trying to use. After installing the ATI drivers, it immediately jumps to the highest resolution for the monitor that it *thinks* is installed. The fact that windows is reporting this problem is kind of odd; generally the monitor will be the one complaining and then will go into energy saving mode.
I suggest going into safe mode (F8 boot) and checking out what the monitor is detected as. If its set to an actual monitor you might try setting it to 'plug&play monitor'; if its plug&play already try choosing a generic monitor type or the actual monitor type. Also set the resolution to something easy like 1024x768 at 60hz just to see what happens.

Well.. turns out it was just a driver problem, reformat and everything is working great. Thanks anyways. :P Got everything backed up so it's all good. :)
Sapphire will send you a 256bit one for $25

Its kinda shady that companies were advertising them as 9800 pro's at first...when they have the 9800 non pro clockrate and 128bit

Random update.. I needed a nicer, more powerful power supply as well.. and I finally ordered a new one after a while of random shut downs during games etc... I checked out FrozenCPU and my eyes were met with the "current" Blue Light Special, and to quote, the "ModRight X-Connect 500W Ultra Modular Blue Titanium ATX Power Supply with UV Cable Kit" for only $100 so I ordered it. I had planned on just driving there as it's local, but no time, so I ordered online and it should be here monday. :D

Bleh, they didn't feel like shipping it Saturday so it'll be here tomorrow, and I will. I am 99.9% certain all problems are linked to my current PSU; when it returns after reboot, a common error message caused by too weak PSU shows and I didn't really expect 300W to cut it with all that stuff running in there too long; thank god it's working now. O.O;
