Okay... so... we need more variety, both in what is available... and in the individual games themselves.

so... my topic here is all about what us, as gamers, are really looking for in the games we want to buy.

On a technical note... I do not represent any software development firm, budding programmer, or concept designer and am in no way affiliated with the gaming industry aside from enjoying the games that come out.

So... what do we want...

More weapons...

Non-Linear maps... even if there is specific checkpoints to the game... we want variety in which routes we can take to get there...

Decent Surround Sound AUDIO!

Plot twists

More than 20 levels in a game... otherwise I get disappointed

Interactive environments... we want to be able to mangle inanimate objects in the game!

That's mine for starters

I want games to be more fun!

A while ago, a dude from Nintendo commented that games are getting too hard, too frustrating. I think this is true.

Like, Super Mario Sunshine is fun because it's fun, and vibrant, it's not too hard, but hard enough to make it worthwhile.

But people think Doom 3 is fun, just because it has very good graphics, and freaks you out and stuff.

Also, if the people can't do more levels, at least make a bonus level at the end, which is really fun, like in Spyro 3.

Less bugs!!!

Finally, a few ULTRA weapons...like, a handheld version of the Leviathan's main turret from UT2004. Or one which rose you up into the air, then a giant shockwave was emitted from you which totally destroyed EVERYTHING on the map.

I do like the idea of being able to interact with all environmental objects. Mostly I would like to see good multiplayer options with a good singleplayer game. Including a dedicated server with the game itself is always a good idea and the more options which are easier to change and administer is what I want. How many games does anyone keep playing the single player on when they have already beaten it anyway? The single player aspect of a game gets it into the hands of the consumer, the multiplayer aspect keeps it fresh for a whole lot longer. I would also like to see more games with cooperative play. I liked that facet of Halo for the Xbox, the only thing I liked about it on the Xbox, but they dumped it when it was ported to PC.

it's funny... some of the games I have had the most fun with include games like Mario 64, Mario Kart, etc...

It really isn't always about the graphics. Some games are just really really fun to play.

For me, when it comes to PC games, I'm looking forward to HL2 so much mainly because you can interact with everything. I can't wait to see what kind of mods people create for it. That gravity gun looks extremely cool too.

Graphics are great, but they only take a game so far. What I'm sick of is game developers concentrating SO MUCH on the graphics that they forget to make the game fun.

I would also like to see longer games, that seem less linear. I hate when in games like Splinter Cell, you learn how to do some special Jump-and-do-splits-in-the-air move, and you only need to do it once or twice in the entire game...

Replayability is also very important to me. I want to be able to play the game again, perhaps on a harder difficulty setting, without just repeating all the stuff i did the first time. This follows along with non-linear gameplay. Let us achieve goals by different means, and perhaps unlock different goals by following different 'routes...'

Multiplayer is also a big issue. Lately, multiplayer in games has seemed to suck badly. FarCry disappointed me recently with its multiplayer gameplay. Need For Speed Underground was also extremely disappointing in multiplayer mode. Developers need to spend a good amount of time on the multiplayer part of the game, since most people play the games multiplayer once they beat it (or perhaps even before they try single player). When every single multiplayer game is laggy, or the maps are so big you can't find anyone to kill, etc... that isn't good.

thats my thoughts

I'd like to see some more originality in the games that are coming out... for example... I remember the SuperNES game where you rode a unicycle around the place... that was fun and original!... dont get me wrong... I like FPS and RTS games... but introduce new elements to them...

lol, i think that if some random company was reading this, they would have used all of these ideas, because this is what we ALL WANT!! if all of these ideas were put together, we would have half life 3
