These two knowledge base articles were just published on Microsoft's web site. They specifically state known problems with some software and SP2, one of which is a BIOS issue.

Also if you have problems with your CD-RW drive not being recognized, you might want to look at this Article (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883523)

Honestly, my opinion is to install it on a fresh OS build. Wait till XP totally screws itself, then reinstall win2000...er I mean XP SP2, yeah, that is what I mean.

I haven't had any problems yet. I installed it on a system that was originally a Dell, had a motherboard transplant, and had been in use for about a year. My games still work, I can write reviews and check email. Some of those incompatible apps were kinda sketchy anyway. Obviously its not turning out to be the model of security they had hoped, but hasn't caused me any problems.

Honestly, every system I have installed it on has been fine, although my advice would be to backup everything important before applying it. What I think is irking so many people is that SP2 is being pushed on us through the automatic updates feature. Something that sever should have some warning. I only have one system which has a problem with an update, and that is an old win2k server. It will Bluescreen every time if I update it. I found that out the hard way after I inadvertantly updated it a year after it bluescreen the first time...oops.

I can't even get the damn thing to install. I get an error saying it can't copy a file or something...even though I can see the file there.

in my opinion, SP2 is basically just a babysitter for windows users who have no idea what they're doing half the time. if you know the OS and you know what not to mess with then you really don't need SP2.

Yeah, it pretty much saves me time from installing all those patches, although I lose the time disabling the firewall, automatic updates and the whole security center anyway, then unistalling MSN, Root cert manager, messenger, and slapping IE just for good measure

I made the plunge into SP2 a day or two ago, and so far I haven't had any issues... If I have any problems with it I'll make sure to post about it though :)
