OK here's the sit. Fried my computer by accidently changing the clock ratio to 16. Once your done laughing continue reading. Now my CD Burner is broke. When I plug it in my computer just freezes at the black screen where it tells me the CPU and computer temp. The part it stops at is the "Checking IDE devices". I'm aware that the CD Burner is an IDE device so I know thats the problem. Im pretty sure somthings fried but I wanna try and fix it. I went through and read the CD Burner article on Howthingswork.com but before I open the burner up I wanna hear some suggestions on what to do.

Is the cable between the Burner and the Motherboard fried?

first unplug the burner and see if the computer boots.
the drive may or may not be the problem.
next try with a new data cable, clear the bios, and allow it to redetect ALL the drives.
If it still doesn't work, toss it and get a new one, the electronics are fried, and not repairable

Yeah, that sounds like a burned out CDRW to me. But as T-shirt said, pull it out and see if the system boots. Otherwise try a new cable, but my guess is that the board on the CD is toast.

cd burners are pretty cheap now anyway, so if you do have to replace it then it won't set you back too much.
