I downloaded this a few days ago, and tried to play it with a 9600 Pro that I had in my system. I found that it was a bit choppy, and I actually was thinking that the netcode for the game sucked or something. Yesterday, however, I installed an X800 Pro in my system, and the game was much better graphically, and there was no more lag.

I hate to say it, but I'm actually still a bit disappointed with CS:S. For me it feels almost like I am playing BF1942 when I play it because there just doesn't seem to be the precision and control as there was in the original CounterStrike. Am I crazy, or does anyone else feel the same way as I do?

hmmm i retract my statement after playing some more with the x800 pro... it still feels way different then the old CS, but i'm getting used to it and I'm starting to like it more and more :)

I haven't played it myself, but I have seen people saying that the netcode is crap right now.

i wouldn't say it is crap, now that i've played with the x800 pro. i would say that it takes some getting used to, and that the 'feel' just isn't the same anymroe. In the old CS, when you shot the gun, your player reacted as if it was shooting (perhaps reacted too much even), and I for one got very used to that style. It takes some adjusting to, but after playing it for several hours I was able to kick a little bit of ass like the good ol' days :)

I also downloaded source. I have to say that I'm lovin it. Except Im using a 9600 pro and everything is as smooth as my friends with his 9800 pro. Kurtis, did you preload hl2? because my friend can't download it for free and he never preloaded it.

did your friend pay for it, or at least have a voucher?

as for playing with a 9600 pro, when i tried that the results weren't very good. it wasn't unplayable, but for me it was not enjoyable. my other hardware is also a limiting factor though.

well if you preloaded hl2 when it was an option. I believe you only had a couple days to preload it. but if you did it in that timeframe then you are able to download source for free.

It funny how you describe CS:S as being more or like BF42, I've heard that from other people as well.

From what I've experienced, it plays very similar to the original, and I'm sure that was the developers primary concern. To me, it's just CS with better graphics, physics, and style, although I do notice some slight differences in characteristics.

All-in-all, it's still fun to play with friends.

yeah, about it being like BF1942, that is only if you're running it on insufficient hardware. once I put in a better video card, it was no longer like playing BF1942.

All-in-all I'm fairly happy with CS:S, although I do very much agree with a lot of things [H]ardOCP said about it:

There is definitely a lot of room for improvement in CS:S, and I hope they don't just leave it as is. It's already good, but it can be amazing.

Yeah, I was surprised they released it when they did. I was like: "This is done? What?!" Didn't seem completed to me..

man i hate hackers so very very much... here i am trying to play and in comes this guy with his speed hacks.

if valve does not nip this problem in the bud, CS:Source is going to end up dying just like the original did. I stopped playing CS over a year ago because so many people were hacking, and it's already starting to happen in CS:Source. There are wallhacks, speed hacks, and who knows what else already available...

luckily i haven't seen anyone using any hacks yet but it's the reason i quit playing the original CS back a long time ago as well. it just ruins the fun of the game.

if valve wants to keep many of their customers then they'd better come up with some ways to fix this.

They need to get punkbuster on board quick. The hackers were why I stopped playing long ago too. Damn hackers. :x

I only play CS and CS:CZ at a local LAN... not online so... hackers aren't an issue for me... but it sucks if they're already implementing mods...

I did like the official mods that the Unreal team implemented in their games... Half-Life2 should have come with those... people enjoy playing around with them for a while... I dont think I've seen a mod for Unreal... though I haven't played it much online...

I have been playing it for a few days and am enjoying it for some reason.

Playing with local guys.

They have a server set up here in Reno.

Stop by the site sometime.

Yeah I enjoy it now too, but I still wish they would fix a few little things.

I still play CS:S now and again, I wish they kept the Riot Sheild in though... :(

Kurtis

hrmm not so sure about that, as fun was it was to be a riot-shield wielding CT and pistol whip all the Ts, it was pretty cheap. It was a fun challenge to kill the CTs with shields though...

Hackers deserve to die yes. What servers do you play on? I play CS:S
