Alright everyone who wants to talk about the HL2 ending or other spoiler filled topics surrounding the game then here's the place to do it.
i loved the ending but i'm so extremely confused about who exactly the G-man is and what he's doing with gordon. i mean cmon, the g-man has complete control over time. who is he?!?!
i cannot wait until HL3, when the whole story will hopefully be told.

I'm thinking the G-Man works for the government or something and uses Gordon as a tool whenever he needs to (like stop the Combine forces from taking control of the world.).
In HL2, it was assumed that you chose the option to work for the G-Man at the end of HL1. Then the beginning of HL2, the G-Man wakes you up and puts you on another project. Once that is done, he freezes you in time again.
Notice at the beginning of the game, the NPC on the train said "I didn't see you board" or something like that. Gordon just appeared.
Then when you meet the NPCs who you talked to in the last game, they say how good you look and whatnot. Gordon looks good because he is stuck in a time freeze until needed, thus a slowed aging process.
Just speculation though :-P
I just started playing through the game again to try and spot all the hidden crap. Since starting the game again, I saw the G-Man on the TV in the doctor's lab. I saw him 2 or 3 other places the first time I played the game. Where all have you seen him (besides the beginning and the end)?

the one i remember the most is in the hoverboat level. you see him i think 2-3 times throughout that sequence.
i also saw him on the little tv in the storage bin that the dude and the alien are waiting in towards the beginning of the game. i think it's the second lookout spot that you reach when you're running through the sewer area.
i'll let ya know the other spots when i reach them again.

Yeah, so far playing the second time I saw him in the scientist's lab and in that rail car with the vort and rebel.
Other places I've seen him was on a TV in the ruins of a building in C17 and standing on that damn in the Water Hazard level.
Also, did you notice in the scientist's lab, that picture that he straightens to open the door, it has pics of a bunch of the scientists and you, but one face scratched out in the middle. Could it be Breen?
I never played Opposing Force or Blue Shift... I may have to do that sometime soon.

Yeah, I only saw him a couple times, once in the water boat run on this catwalk to the upper left. Saw him down below me once and he did the 'straighten his tye' sequence again in front of a door. And a couple times on televisions throughout the game.
If you're replaying the game, take screenshots of all the places you see him and of objects in the game that might better the understanding of the ending. (Like the picture frame)

Yeah, I am taking screenshots of anything interesting I come by in addition to the G-Man sightings I find.
I think there is a strategy guide book that lists all his appearances but there are only 9 or so and I think others have seen him in places not listed in the guide.

yea, i'm almost positive that it's breen. since he was the head of the research and all and he's in the middle.
the person on the far right side of the picture looks like the G-man to some people but personally i don't think it's him.

There was a scientist in HL1 that some people thought was the G-Man (same one in pic I think). They just have a somewhat similar appearance. There is no way that the G-Man was a scientist along with Gordon and then somehow became his pimp, selling Gordon out for different jobs.

Can someone take a screen of that picture, I really want to see it. :)

The scientist on the far right is the one that some random people confuse with the G-Man. The scratched out face is Breen (the admin).

The ending was horrible! :) how can they leave you hanging like that again? You don't even know if the girl died. Yeah i dont know what the G-man is all about either.

I just now finished HL2 a few minutes ago. I never played HL1 all the way through, so I'm slightly more confused than the rest of you probably :)
All in all I really liked the game. The very end was sorta odd though, the way the gravity gun turned into this mega-super-duper weapon of destruction. it was pretty easy to beat, although i did come semi-close to dying on the very end when I was getting shot by the stupid gun ships as I tried to take out the reactor thing...

Well, I was more interested in the story than the gameplay at the end. If it were hard, I would fall out of the story simply trying to beat it.
Just hit the gunships once or twice with the energy spheres and they're done.
Who cares how the energy field couldn't destroy that gun because of the energy field it imposed, that gun was awesome! :P
And if you get the chance, play all of HL1, it's worth, it was a great game as well.

You can just get the Half Life: Bronze package if you are saying you don't want to pay for HL, which you already own...
Or if you are saying you already have the Bronze, you can UPGRADE to silver or gold

Yeah, I might be tempted to upgrade to silver for the perks.

I'm with most of you guys, I believe that the G - Man is an alien from another galaxy, using Gordon as a puppet of destruction. The G-Man is using Gordon for the reason that the Combine is trying to take the entire solitary system, as in, EVERYTHING. I believe the G-Man carries the briefcase around because it contains an alien transport device (Teleport!) He needs it to follow you so that you are doing your "Job" He is also the highest bidder, WHICH, COULD change. Anyone could "Buy" your services. But i guess we'll see when half life 3 is released.
"10 years later"
Still waiting..... TF2 hasnt even been released yet. DAMN YOU VALVE! AHhhh

I'm kind of on the fence on the G-Man = alien issue. I think that he may work for the government and use alien technology and work with aliens, but I don't know if he himself is alien. I think his whole choppy speech is just something to make him more sinister, but it could be he is an alien not used to human language.
Maybe he's Jesus? :-P
BTW, welcome to the forums netcompany3
Aaaggh! Why do you all torment me!? My laptop isn't poweful enough to play HL2. My desktop is a Pentium 3 which I can't afford to upgrade. :'(
I think the G-Man is an alien from some galactic alliance against the Combine. He was impressed with Gordon in HL1 and gets him to try and get rid of the Combine, at least on Earth.
His speech at the beginning of the game is freaky...'Wake up, Mr Freeman...wake up and, smell the ashes.' Euuurrgh.

It's actually powerful enough to muck with those crates?
On another note, you can add image attachments when you post, you don't have to use photobucket unless you prefer it.

Thanks Brian, I think I'll be visiting alot more, and guess what?! This is my 2nd post! W00t. lol alrighty. I think the choppy voice is just to make him more mysterious, its working on me. I know ill be getting half life 3 just to see what the puck (lol) he is or who, or whatever. lol. and, hey, maybe it is jesus, just trying to save the human race by using a one man army. Grrr, why cant he do it himself, *shakes fist* WHY?! :-P
Congrats.
Because Gordon pwns all. He's probably an alien, and a fairly fragile one at that...not able to cope with certain things on Earth. Like the Asguard in Stargate SG-1.
Yeah, I'll get HL3 so I can attempt installing it, the installer saying that my computer's a weakling and throwing the metal case on the floor, stamping on it then throwing it. Out the window. Onto someone walking by. Then quickly hide in case they see me.

I don't think the physics was powerfull enough to understand that it wouldn't work in real life. And while it was like that it kept vibrating and if I put something in one of the open crates, such as a barrel, it would shoot out 5 seconds later and fly all the way to the end of the map.
