A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup survey shows that President George W. Bush's approval rating has increased to 57%, up from 51% three weeks ago. The approval increase appears to be related to the recent Iraqi elections, which the poll shows went better than most Americans expected. In general, the public is more positive now than it was before the elections about the way Bush has handled the situation in Iraq, as well as how the war is faring for the United States. At the same time, the poll shows little change in Bush's job approval rating on the economy or on Social Security.

Bush is screwing over the Social Security stuff... He said he wouldn't reduce benefits and yet.... ugg....

As for the war, it had to be done sooner or later, but what has he done recently to get it over with?

I don't really think it needed to be done, honestly. Sure, Saddham is/was a bad guy, but he had nothing to do whatsoever with the 'war on terrorism' that Bush started. any remember this scruffy guy Osama? what the hell happened to him? *shrug*

I think that the war needs to be finished since it was started, but I really don't think we needed to be there in the first place. I don't really see it as our place to be the Global Referee of sorts, we've got plenty of problems of our own.

Not because Iraq is an immediate threat to the US, but because it is a horribly run country that killed its own people. We shouldn't have places like that in this day and age. It is only time before the entire world is run by different democracies as it should be. Any place where the people have no say needs to be helped. Not saying this was the best solution, but since Bush was dumb enough to go this route, let's look at the bright side.

I agree that the US has no place to moderate other countries like we do. We have made huge mistakes in the past and are still making huge mistakes by interfering with other countries. When the US becomes a perfect country itself, I wouldn't have a problem with it. We need to work out our own problems before we go teaching others.

yeah... that's the problem for me is that we are trying to make them like us when we have our own problems. why shouldn't the countries make themselves change rather than us stepping in and forcing the change? do we know what they want more than they know what they want? i never realized we were the international Mommy

Well that's kinda iffy. It takes a long time for countries to change and it isn't always easy, especially for the ppl of Iraq who would be killed for even thinking of a revolution. If the ppl are killed before they can organize, how can they revolt?

well i didn't say it would be easy lol, but it still isn't out place to hold their hand through la revolucion

There is no easy way to fix the world. If there was, no one would ever have this discussion. I'm just pointing out issues from different sides.

It's kind of funny though; America was born through revolution. Recently, America has gone into puberty and with this new fuzz on its balls, thinks it knows all the answers and pushes the limits by interfering with other countries. America knowing only revolution sees this as the only way and that every country must gain 'independence' and 'freedom' through revolution with the help of America of course. It will be some time before America matures and learns from its mistakes. Maybe then we can attempt to change the world for the better.

In regards to Iraq, though, they were glad that America got rid of Saddam. They didn't want to be ruled by Saddam, but they don't want to be ruled by America either.

So why do we pay for the CIA again? It is for this very reason we have spooks isn't it?

There are countrys much worse than Iraq, so why were they our target? *cough* oil *cough*. Also if revolution is supported by the U.S. then whats up with Cuba? They are how they are because Che Guevara and Fidel Castro revolted against their government and had the support of many people. They were successfull. And what did the U.S. do? sent a bunch of people to kill Che Guevara. They were successfull. And then there was a little thing called the Bay of Pigs. We convinced a bunch of people that they could attack Fidel and would have air support and more troops. But we didn't live up to our end of the bargain. they went in and were arrested right off the ships. Then of course, was the Cuban Missile crisis. During those 13 days Fidel had the power to launch nukes at us but didn't. Basically what I'm getting at is the Bush Administration just like others has no real reason for doing what it does, the United States today is somewhat of a bully.
