Okay... so it might be good if people would...
TRY TO WIN A 7800 GTX, 7800 GT, OR ONE OF 9 OTHER PRIZES BY POSTING IN THIS THREAD...
This is a NEW contest. We had the same prizes for a contest last month, but this is a whole new contest with the same prizes. We specifically made it a forums only contest so that our regular visitors would have a better chance at winning, as opposed to someone who has never posted in our forums before... so what are you waiting for. post post post.

Sweet, thanks for the new contest guys. I hope I'll win something this time. My 9800 is still doing a pretty good job but it's getting a little bit old.
I wonder how many of the entrant's post count will go up above 1 after this contest has ended. BTW are the user IPs being checked? Something seems fishy to me about the last dozen or so posts.
Once again, thanks!

Could someone please explain the difference between a 6800 and 6800GT. Is there really a noticeable difference between the two. I just bought a 6800 Geforce and I'm wondering if I messed up. You can tell I'm NOT a professional gamer.:-D
/mod edit: this isn't really the thread for such questions. i'd ask that you please post in the Tech Support area for video card advice.

And I assume Kalo won one of the video cards?
Curious, since some of us, will be waiting 3 days to see if we get a second chance. Nice to know one way or the other if they were claimed or not.

One hundred-and-ten people entered the contest, and only seven people out of those who entered were regular and active users. I went thru and counted the number of regular and active users who entered, and that is how I got these numbers. Since it was a 93.5-percent chance that the winners selected would be new users to the forums, it was only a very slim chance that even one of the winners selected would be a regular and active user of the forums.
It is very odd and a bit suspicious, when both winners selected for the most expensive prizes, are BOTH very active and regular forum posters. It makes it look even more suspicious when the day before the winners are selected, Kurtis got into a discussion on another thread, about how he wished regular forum users would be the winners.
I've entered contests on other sites, where I have had no doubts that it was honest. However, I likewise have been on contest sites where the owner changes the rules in the middle of the contest [which is against the law in many countries], where 200 people enter [with 90% of them new users] and the owner selects winners supposedly at random, but every winner turns out to be a long-time poster, and where the owner even falsely advertises his site across the internet as being a brand new site that is having a Grand Opening, even though the site was around for years. I'm talking about the dishonestly, fraud and cheating committed by the owner of 3dgameman.com website. This is one example that proves that it does happen sometimes. My questioning of the contest on this site therefore does have precedent and it does occur sometimes on other sites. I'm not saying it happened on this site.
There is no way to know if that is what happened here or not, and maybe the winners were honestly selected. However I can't help questioning it when it was 93.5-percent odds that someone new would be picked and none of the new users were picked.
Kurtis

Oh god, here comes the flaming. You've really got to be kidding me. First of all, I'd like to correct you on a couple things. When you look to see if someone is a regular user, don't just look at their post count my friend.

As you can see from the FACTS above, the person that won the 7800 GTX is in fact NOT a regular forum user. Kalo started posting for the contest. It just so happens that once he started posting, he KEPT posting. Good for him. The winner of the 7800 GT is one of our regular users - great, I'm quite happy for him. 2 headsets and 1 gamepad were both won by new users. Bothersome, who is a regular user who previously won a grand prize computer system worth about $3,000 right here at TheTechLounge has now won a toolbox - wow you're right that sure does seem fishy (*cough*). And then a new user one a toolbox, and some of the prize winners still haven't replied to their emails. Also... can you explain to me why nobody who has been a forum member since before 2005 won, if you think we rigged the contest?
If you for one second think that we have so little integrity as to actually RIG a contest, you should remove yourself from our forums immediately. If we wanted to make sure our regular users won the prizes, we would just give them directly to them without the contest nonsense. As you can see in the actual facts I've laid out above, it's pretty obvious that we did not rig the contest, and I REALLY can't say enough how much I dislike that you would accuse us of such a thing. My posts stating the purpose of this contest were very clear. We did not send out news for this contest specifically so that our own regular users would stand a better chance at winning. We always send news for our contests, and we thought it would be a nice gesture for our regulars if we kept this one a bit more low-key.
It leaves a VERY bad taste in my mouth when someone like you comes around and starts talking shit about us on our own forums with regards to a contest. Do you think you are entitled to a graphics card, and when you see you aren't a winner, you immediately throw up a red flag and call foul before you even really LOOK at the facts? I'm sure you wanted to win, but that doesn't mean you should get pissed off and start conspiracy theories about us and the way we run things when we give everything we have for our users with every aspect of our site from the way we conduct reviews to the contests we run.
The winners were picked at random. End of story.
By the way, don't compare us to 3DGameMan.com please. That's exactly the type of site we have always promised ourselves, our readers, and our sponsors that we would NOT be. We conduct ourselves with integrity, and unlike 3DGameMan and many other sites out there who shall remain nameless, we don't give every product that comes along a 'kick ass award.' I'd also like to point out once again that we did not send news to anybody about this - so it's not like we had any motivation to rig this contest and get a ton of new people to signup from other sites etc. and then screw them. We simply kept the contest low-key.
At the end of the day, you need to take a step back and realize that we're throwing contests out of the goodness of our hearts. We aren't getting paid a damn thing by anybody to throw these contest, we just do it to be nice to our users. And as a matter of fact, these 7800 GTXs and 7800 GTs that we've given away over the last couple of the months are coming directly from our testing labs. We are giving away our own video cards.
Have a nice weekend...
(P.S. No offense meant towards anyone I labeled as a "new user," but I had to do that to illustrate the point that this contest was definitely not rigged...)

Kurtis, you shouldn't have wasted the time replying to this ignorant fool. If he was a regular reader of this site, he wouldn't question The Tech Lounge's intentions. Looks to me like he is just some 13 year old who didn't get what he wanted and his only response is to throw a temper tantrum. It may work with his mommy and daddy, but it won't in the real world.
Cry me a river gadly. I hope you get banned.

You claim that you are trying not to be like 3dgameman.com. But when one of your user's addresses a concern on your site, you act rude, nasty, impolite, and then backup the comments of an immature jerk (i.e. Pennymandeux). To me that is the EXACT same type of behavior of sites like 3dgameman.com.
You know as well as I do, that when 93.5-percent of the participants in the contest had less then 5 posts, and the two winners of the best prizes were active users with a decent amount of posts, that this does look suspicious. Someone pointing out something suspicious is NOT the behavior of a child, or a flamer, or someone who is immature. If more people would point out when they see something suspicious, whether it is in real life or on the internet, then maybe this world would be a much better place. But a lot of people do not take the time to do it, because they know as soon as they do, that immature jerks will insult them. If you think I was wrong, then insult my words but do NOT insult the person, because you have NO clue what kind of person I am.
And I will let you know, I enter around 100 contests per year. I entered 7 contests in this month alone, including bigbruin, xyzcomputing, 3dgameman.com, etc. In the over 100 contests I enter a year, I may get lucky if I win one. I never say a word or a comment, if the contest is run legitimately.
Also if I thought that the owner of a site gave me the prize because he liked me, then I would return it, because that is the kind of person I am. Its called being an honest person.
Now I probably was wrong about the contest on this site, and it seems to have been run honestly. But that does NOT make me wrong for pointing out my suspicions. It is NEVER wrong for ANY user no matter how new to point out suspicions. And a well run website with intergrity [which is what you claim this site is] would NOT insult the user. That was uncalled for, and makes this look like a very low class website. And that is a fact.

A) If you think we are anything like 3dgameman.com, you clearly don't read ANY of our articles and you simply came here for the contest and nothing more.
B) I suppose it does look somewhat suspicious that 2 regular users won when the odds weren't exactly in their favor, but again I want to point out a couple of things. The winner of the 7800 gtx was not a regular user, he's a new user who just happens to be active and has made a lot of posts in a month. also, if we were to rig the contest, we would have chosen for people who have been registered and posting on our site since 2003/2004 for the main winners, whereas nobody won who was registered before 2005. furthermore, what do we have to gain by rigging the contest? we did not send news to any other site about this contest, and as such we received no increased traffic for the contest - so why would we waste our time rigging it? if we wanted to guarantee regular users won prizes, we'd just give them the video cards and be done with it.
C) how does the fact that you enter 100 contests per year and 7 in this month alone help your argument any? all this tells me is that you're just out looking for free stuff wherever you can get it and you couldn't care less about the site who sends it to you.
D) i doubt that you would actually give a prize back if a contest was rigged in your favor, but even if you did, what's your point? you saying you would like psychosnowman to give you his video card because you think i rigged the contest for him to win a 7800 GT?
E) Finally, you mention that you could be wrong about us rigging the contest. While you are not "WRONG" for pointing out your suspicions, I will tell you what you are... you are ungrateful. I would also like to know where I insulted you on a personal level - point out where I did that. Saying "oh god here come the flames" is not a personal insult. If you were a regular user here you would know that pretty much every other contest we've had, there is always that one person who makes a fool of themselves by complaining about the contest and the fact that it must have been rigged because they didn't win. boo-freaking-hoo. nobody twisted your arm to sign up for this contest, and based on your attitude, i would personally like to ask you to remove yourself from our forums. if your last 2 posts have been any indication, it looks like you're headed for a meeting with Mr. Ban Stick if you keep it up.

A) If you think we are anything like 3dgameman.com, you clearly don't read ANY of our articles and you simply came here for the contest and nothing more.
And this is suppose to be a bad thing? If I came here only for the contest?
A few of your currently most active users, may of came here ONLY for the contest and was originally planning to ONLY enter one of your contests. Just because someone came here only for a contest, does not mean that they won't read the site, like what they see, and enjoy it enough to become an active participant.
The fact that you feel the need to put down people who come here "only for the contest", and act like those people are inferior in some way is very shortsighted. You never know who will become an active user or not.
Didn't I already say that I was wrong? But I feel that I had legitimate concerns and legitimate suspicions. We could of handled everything in a polite manner. I believe my original post was politely written, I even edited it a few times to make sure it was polite. I stick behind what I said that addressing suspicions is not a bad thing. You want a site where everyone is afraid to death or scared to death to address any suspicions? You want a site where everyone is afraid to talk honestly? As a new user here, I had honest concerns and I addressed them. Since when is being honest and addressing your concerns a bad thing.
C) how does the fact that you enter 100 contests per year and 7 in this month alone help your argument any? all this tells me is that you're just out looking for free stuff wherever you can get it and you couldn't care less about the site who sends it to you.
I pointed out the fact that I enter a lot of contests since you and the last user both accused me of addressing my concerns because I didn't win. When 99 contests per year, I'm a loser, and I do NOT say one single word on those other sites, that is proof beyond a shadow of a doubt what you said was a false statement. I only say something when the contest looks suspicious, and if you stop reacting emotionally and angrily then you will admit that it did look suspicious. Pointing out the obvious and asking about it, is not or never was, about me. I was only asking about the contest and my suspicions.
D) i doubt that you would actually give a prize back if a contest was rigged in your favor, but even if you did, what's your point? you saying you would like psychosnowman to give you his video card because you think i rigged the contest for him to win a 7800 GT?
I actually did refuse a prize once, because the contest wasn't fairly run.
And will you please stop with these comments like "you would like psychosnowman to give you his video card." Please point out ONE spot in any of my posts where I said one single word where I said I was upset that I didn't win? Its gets very lame when you feel the need to insult the user or put down the person. If you disagree with my argument that insult ONLY the argument. You constantly try to make it seem like it about me, to try to discredit me. It has been and was always about the contest. I saw something that look suspicious and I addressed it, nothing more and nothing less. So stop the comments like the above one.
E) Finally, you mention that you could be wrong about us rigging the contest. While you are not "WRONG" for pointing out your suspicions, I will tell you what you are... you are ungrateful.
I'm ungrateful for pointing out obvious suspicions? That isn't ungrateful. Some sites would actually thank a user for honestly addressing his concerns. There is and never was, anything wrong, with any user addressing a concern.
yourself from our forums. if your last 2 posts have been any indication, it looks like you're headed for a meeting with Mr. Ban Stick if you keep it up.
If you ban users for addressing legitimate concerns in a polite manner, then there is SOMETHING wrong with this site. I did nothing but address a concern in a polite, intelligent and thoughtfully worded message. If you want to ban me for doing that, then so be it. I would not want to participate on a site where you have to be scared to death and afraid of getting banned for expressing yourself honestly and addressing any concerns I had with the site.
Ok, I was replying before but my computer keeps shutting down right now - these PC issues are killing me. :( All I have to say is pretty poor sport over your absence of winning, and I do hope that you take advantage of all of the content that is available here, and not just the generousity of the site owners. No need for flaming. Better luck next time.

I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you further. it is blatantly obvious that you are not the type of person we want in our community. goodbye gadly. you have been banned.
next time we host a contest, i'm definitely going to add a "no whining" rule... users will be banned for whining in any way about contests... it's sad that we will have to make a rule like that.

I was curious on which planet you learned to speak English. Because I didn't see anything in what gadly wrote that would even suggest he was a poor sport over not winning. So I guess your version of English is different then mine.

1 Corded Gamepad and 3 Toolboxes were unclaimed, so I've just chosen 4 replacement winners and sent out emails.
In case you're wondering how I picked the winners, I use Excel and the function =RANDBETWEEN(1,111) to pick random numbers within the contest entries.
So yeah, reply to your emails guys, so I can get all these prizes shipped out.
And keep your eyes peeled for another exciting (international) contest that will be up soon. that's right, you guys in Canada, Europe, Australia, etc. will be eligible. :-D

Alright people... there are still FOUR unclaimed prizes, and I'm getting pretty sick of picking random replacement winners because people are failing to respond. I'm going to send one more round of emails, and if I don't get back any responses, I'm just going to give away the remaining prizes to whoever posts saying they want them.
Currently there is still a XFX XGear Corded Gamepad and three XFX Toolboxes.
Sorry to hear this man, hope people wake up!! :)

As a matter of fact, no, only 1 person replied (for an XFX Toolbox)
I currently still have available:
1) XFX XGear Corded Gamepad
2) XFX Toolbox
3) XFX Toolbox
So, anyone is free to claim those 3 prizes. Just say which one you want officially in the thread so that you are the first to claim it, and then send me an email where you tell me your username, your shipping address, and phone number so that I can ship these bad boys out finally.

The video card just arrived and is sitting right next to me. Now I just have to wait for tomorrow when my new motherboard arrives and I can plug this baby in :D
Thanks again for the great prize!
I can't decide whether or not to put my Zalman cooler on it. The cooler that comes with the card covers more area, but the Zalman site lists the 7800 as being compatible. I guess I'll just wait and see how noisy the card's stock fan is.

Well the motherboard is here and the video card is installed but unfortunately there's a problem.
A small part of the video card was rattling around loose in the packaging. It's a tiny piece of black plastic with some wire on it, when I looked close at the board I could see that it is one of a set of 3 identical parts that lead into one of the DVI connectors. There is another group of 3 leading into the other one.
So the good news is the board still works. The bad news is that little piece of plastic and wire seems to carry one of the color channels. So I have one monitor which looks great, and another that looks... purple.
Not sure if anything can be done about this though as since it was apparently working fine when they were using it for testing purposes then the damage probably happened during shipping or when I took it out of the box. Hence voiding warranty.
Not a big deal though, it's still a sweet card and I don't use my 2nd monitor for much other than Winamp and watching for IMs while I'm in a game.
Thanks again for the prize!
