Dell plans to offer Advanced Micro Devices AMD Opteron Dual Core processors in server products by the end of the year, dealing a setback to its main chip supplier, Intel.

Edit: Yes I know this should have been posted in news. I'm sorry I posted it in the wrong section. Feel free to move it. :)
It's a good thing. I guess they have to start somewhere. I hope they'll support more than just servers in the future, people would eat it up. :)

Technically Dell is already going to be selling AMD desktops - remember the Dell Alienware Acquisition. Shouldn't be much longer before AMD finds their way in Dell-branded desktops. Of course, we'll see how this year goes for AMD, it looks like Intel is making a comeback and it seems nobody has heard anything about what's next for AMD. Wonder if working on something really big that they haven't talked about yet (I would guess and hope that is the case).
Yeah I forgot about the Alienware acquisition. I guess it's a wait and see, thing. :)
This is very interesting, wonder what Intel thinks of this? Guess they don't really have the stranglehold they use to have on Dell.

Intel seems to be removing themselves from a bunch of things lately. Recently AMD became The CPL's primary sponsor, where as before it was Intel for a long time. This bit with Intel might only be the result of the Alienware acquisition, but I doubt it because I think Intel had sole rights with Dell, or something to that effect.

Intel did not have anything (legal) that says Dell can not use AMD CPUs - what they did have (alledgedly) is agreements with Dell that they will get some big breaks on Intel CPU purchases if they do not use AMD CPUs. That's where the AMD vs Intel lawsuit comes into play with unfair business practices etc.
