The RIAA P2PLawsuit Letter Sent To College Students (http://www.thetechlounge.com/news/11291/The+RIAA+P2PLawsuit+Letter+Sent+To+College+Student s/)

"We recently heard that the RIAA would be sending college students letters asking them to settle before they actually file suit. Apparently it has already begun. Here's a quote from a letter to one college student:

We have gathered evidence that you have been infringing copyrights owned by the Record Companies. We are attaching to this letter a sample of the sound recordings you were found distributing via the AresWarezUS (Ares) peer-to-peer network. In total, you were found to be distributing 321 files, a substantial number of which are sound recordings controlled by the Record Companies.

The reason we are sending you this letter to you in advance of filing suit is to give you the opportunity to settle these claims are early as possible. If you contact us within the next twenty (20) calendar days, we will offer to settle the claims for a significantly reduced amount compared to the judgment amount a court may enter against you..."

the letter campaign starts! this can't be cheap. how much money does it take the RIAA to have programmers trace every stinking file in thousands of users share folder?

Well, in all honesty, it will be a battle which the RIAA will win. Sure college students are poor, but the truth is most students are bank rolled by their parents, and the parents will gladly settle to protect the investment in their childs education. Do the crime: pay the fine. That's how the world works, and it's never too early to teach that lesson.
