Ubuntu's Not Windows? (http://www.thetechlounge.com/news/13459/Ubuntus-Not-Windows/)

Abbie Schubert paid more than $1,100 for a Dell laptop hoping to enroll in online classes at Madison Area Technical College, or MATC.

But something stopped her: she bought an operating system for her computer she never heard of, Ubuntu.

Schubert says she ordered her laptop online at Dell.com expecting to buy your classic bread-and-butter computer.

She didn't realize until the next morning her laptop defaulted to the Ubuntu operating system.

"It's been a mess," she said. "I regret ordering the computer."

They got the headline wrong. It should have been "Woman too stupid for college, confesses publicly."

But I gotta highlight this comment:

FUD FUD FUD FUD FUD FUD FUD. Did I say FUD? Why yes! The Dell Studio 15N is a $644 notebook, not $1,100! The version of Ubuntu featured in the video is an older version. Dell started selling 8.04 pre-installed July 18th, 2008. THIS ARTICLE IS 100% FUNDED BY GOOD OL' MICROSOFT. SPREAD THE TRUTH, NOT THE FUD!

HI-larious. "

If he is a teacher with medium intelligence she should know that a computer has an operating system. She has a choice between windows, mac or linux. She should have check the default OS before buying. She should also know that all laptops does not come with windows as default OS. She should blame herself for her ignorance

Where in the news story did they say it was a Dell Studio 15N?

If she missed two semesters, it'd make sense that it would be Ubuntu 7.10 instead of 8.04, and Dell's pricing has been going up and down for quite a while.

In fact, in the old days (2007), Dell was selling Ubuntu laptops for more than their Windows counterparts.
