unfortonately, i didn't get very extreme at all in my laptop cooling plans. it's just sitting on a cheapo targus cooler that i took the dremel to, allowing it to suck air through the pad and not just into it. also, i got a switchable universal adapter that hooks into an outlet and delivers 12v instead of 5v from the usb. it can handle more, but noise gets to be a problem.
I'd recomend a type of stand that gets the notebook off the desk. the airflow alone helps dramatically. I saw a nice-looking one on newegg that is basically a telescopic "x" that would seem to give lots of air under the lappy.
internally, i did add a heatsink under the chipset, so that helped my efforts. :D
