Google's Native Client plan @ TechFlash
I'm still sifting through the accompanying documentation. But at a basic level, the project seems to raise again an issue that has repeatedly dogged Microsoft Windows in the Internet age: As Web-based programs become more powerful -- making the browser a more functional platform for applications -- a person's choice of operating system becomes less and less relevant.
Microsoft to offer web-based Word and Excel @ PC Advisor
Microsoft plans to make most of its Office software - including Word and Excel - available online. Web-hosted apps, also known as 'Software-as-a-Service' (SaaS), allow users to benefit from lower initial prices for the programs, as the apps are hosted online and don't need to be downloaded to computers.
Alright, see that's competition. I don't agree with the idea that Google's apps threaten Windows, because it's not like you buy your OS for its startup sounds. You pick Windows or OS X for the applications they support. (And you pick Linux because you're so very alternative, but aren't the tattoos and Skinny Puppy type--although you share a level of pain tolerance.)
and since this is a serious newsy-news i've gone ahead and used a Fail Blog image
