An Excellent Gaming Keyboard with a Flaw Here and There

Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro is a high-quality, wireless, mechanical keyboard that brings a very good typing and gaming experience to the user, and offers plenty of features (such as Razer Chroma RGB), great customization options, and excellent versatility. This keyboard supports Bluetooth, RF wireless, as well as wired, USB Type-C connection, and allows simultaneous use with up to three different devices.

However, it isn’t flawless and has a few downsides, such as poor battery life when on the wireless setup, with the RGB turned on, and full compatibility only with Windows-based machines. Nonetheless, that doesn’t change the fact that it is a pretty good device.

Features

When talking about the main features that the Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro brings to the table, it should be mentioned that it comes fitted with Razer switches that may be clicky Green or more discrete Yellow ones, depending on your preferences. It offers a very good 1.2 ms latency in wired, 0.9 ms in wireless, and 7.3 ms latency in Bluetooth mode, and it allows simultaneous connection with up to three different devices.

On top of that, there are dedicated media keys, 108 fully macro-programmable keys, as well as Razer Chroma RGB lighting that can create an amazing visual appearance. A very good Razer Synapse 3 software is responsible for all the setups and adjustment. It can create macros, remap keys and buttons, adjust power settings, as well as set up the RGB lighting in an unlimited number of color combinations and schemes.
Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro comes with an onboard memory that allows saving of up to five different profiles, full N-key rollover support, and has everything that you would expect from one of the best gaming keyboards available.

Usage

This keyboard comes with two types of switches, Razer Greens that are perfect for gaming and produce a recognizable clicky sound, accompanied with a low pre-travel and light actuation force needed, as well as Razor Yellows that are silent and require more force to actuate, which makes them a much better option if you are looking for a good mechanical keyboard for your typing work. Have in mind that you will experience a certain wobbling with the spacebar, shift, backspace, and enter keys; however, these movements are minor and shouldn’t affect the overall impression about this keyboard, which is generally very positive.

Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro offers an excellent feeling to your fingers, due to the high-quality ABS plastic used for their keycaps, while the keyboard itself allows for comfortable use even during long periods, due to its good ergonomic build and soft padding, despite its inclined design.

Well-positioned media keys, accompanied by Fn keys and very good Razer Synapse 3 software, allow for full customizability and keyboard’s easy setup, while its excellent connectivity gives it great versatility and ability to use it in multiple configurations and in combination with a whole bunch of complementary devices.

Design

Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro provides an excellent build quality and is mostly made of plastic that is reinforced with an aluminum faceplate that gives it much-needed sturdiness. Moreover, it is fitted with inclined feet that provide enough grips to prevent sliding, while delivering incline between 4° and 9°, which allows comfortable, fatigue-free use.

This keyboard also comes accompanied with a padded wrist rest that gives just the right amount of support; however, it requires occasional readjustments, due to not-that-great magnetic attachment to the keyboard itself.

As already mentioned, Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro comes with either Razer Green or Razer Yellow switches and is fitted with very good, tall, round-button media keys and a circular volume wheel, with a mute button in the center, that provides a very good configuration and practicality. Also, there is a detachable braided USB-C cable that seems pretty durable and goes head to head with the rest of this premium device.

Good

When talking about the positive sides of the Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro, the main characteristics that should be pointed out are its great customizability and connectivity that involves: wired connection, RF wireless connection, as well as Bluetooth connection.

On top of that, there is Razer Chroma RGB lighting, 108 fully macro-programmable keys, with Razer mechanical switches, as well as dedicated media controls, multi-device pairing, and top-class build quality. In other words, every important ingredient needed for the best wireless keyboard is there.

Bad

Of course, being good as it is, doesn’t mean being without any flaws, and in the case of the Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro, that is, in the first place, its price. Also, it has poor battery life when using RGB lighting, as well as limited compatibility that allows its use only with Windows systems.

Besides, there are no shortcut keys. Additionally, there might be some Razer Synapse 3 connection issues if you try to switch from one type of connection to another, which may result in sudden freezes of the Razer Synapse software. This, of course, shouldn’t be happening with any keyboard, especially a premium model such as this one.

However, since this is the first wireless mechanical keyboard from Razer, certain problems are expected. However, considering the price, it is not that a great combination.

Final Thoughts

In other words, regardless of its high price, Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro still offers quite a lot and is certainly among the best keyboards out there. It can compete with the keyboards such as the Logitech G915 LIGHTSPEED that offers a bit better experience and performance; however, it lacks macro-programmability and offers lower build quality.

On the other hand, there is a large number of wired mechanical keyboards on the market, that offer much more for the money. Therefore, if wireless connectivity isn’t one of your primary requirements, some other models will certainly be a much better option, including Razer’s own Razer Huntsman Elite and Razer BlackWidow Elite that bring more value for the money.

However, if a wireless connection is your priority, you should know that there are not many keyboards that can compete with this one, other than the already mentioned Logitech G915 LIGHTSPEED. In that case, Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro is a sure thing and the one that will certainly please most of your requirements.
