Introduction

My family has been into the modern art scene in my hometown for as long as I can remember. Over the course of my life, I've come to understand when I am looking at a piece of art. It doesn't always make sense to me. But I still think I get it.

The first thought that crossed my mind when I saw the B&W Zeppelin on the shelf at the Apple Store a few months ago was, "That would look great on my mantle. If I had a mantle." As is the case with any big electronics store, I couldn't really get a good listen to judge the audio quality, but I knew the name behind the speakers. It was bound to sound... delicious.

B&W has turned high-fidelity audio into an art over the last 40 years, creating what many regard as the best speakers money can buy. Abbey Road Studios, one of the most famous audio production venues in the world, has used 800-series B&W speakers as monitors in all of their control rooms since early on in the 80's. Some of the greatest music artists in the world have mixed their albums through these speakers.

With the Zeppelin, B&W has made its first foray into iPod territory. Its pedigree alone should raise some enthusiastic eyebrows, but we're going to take a look - and a listen - to see if the Zeppelin lives up to the expectations laid before it.

First Impressions

Fast forward a few months from my first encounter at the Apple Store, and I have a Zeppelin sitting in my office. And I have to listen to it. This is such a rough job.

The packaging reminded me of opening a new computer from Apple. There's an accessory box on top, which contains various pieces of documentation, a remote, a rubber "tilt pad" for angling the speaker forward a bit, and the power cable. Underneath this package, the Zeppelin rests between two large pieces of Styrofoam.

It was sort of difficult to get the Zeppelin out of the box because it's so heavy (21 pounds, to be exact). I personally enjoy expensive things that are heavy. Gold is heavy. A $600 iPod dock should be as well.

We removed the Zeppelin from the box at the office and I remarked that it looked like an advanced piece of military ordnance. It feels expensive and it looks like a super-weapon. Those are some great reasons to start liking this speaker.

akustika: I would mind a lot less if you would actually link to us prominently and state that it is a translation of an article from TheTechLounge. As it stands, you're just stealing our content and putting it in a different language, without permission. I appreciate that you're asking in this case, but I noticed that you translated at least parts of our LaserVue article as well.

At the and of article I put direct link to this article and write that source is TheTechLounge.

Concerning LaserVue(http://akustika-life.blogspot.com/2008/10/laser-tv...) I take only conclusion from comparing it with Pioneer PRO-151FD Kuro 60 and add link immediately.

If you have objections I'll don't use TheTechLounge as source.

Thank you
