Introduction

With prices for speakers as low as they are, and with all the competition and variety, it's difficult to pick a good set of speakers... Especially if you aren't an audiophile.

No matter what price bracket speakers are in, there's a certain degree of mystery as to how they'll perform. Sure, if you drop a fistful of C-notes, you're probably going to get good audio, but even then, the only way to know is to listen.

Which is why we've got this 5.1 set from Logitech on our hands. Because our hands, have good, er, ears.

For eighty dollars most people are looking for bang-for-the-buck, since there are many cheaper 5.1 options out there, but it's hard to shake the knowledge that you get what you pay for.

First Looks

The set comes with four satellites, two with short cables and two with longer ones, a short-cabled center channel satellite, a compact subwoofer, and a wired remote.

Each satellite is matte black ABS plastic, with a matching plastic base, and has a matte black steel guard across the drivers, with the little Logitech logo glued on there.

The speakers aren't going to win any awards for good looks, but they're sturdy and don't look dumb. There's got to be something said for peripherals that don't look dumb.
